This family room addition created the perfect space to get together in this home. The many windows make this space similar to a sunroom in broad daylight. Our young professional clients moved to Texas from out of state and purchased a new home that they wanted to make their own. They contracted our team to change out all of the lighting fixtures and to furnish the home from top to bottom including furniture, custom drapery, artwork, and accessories. The results are a home bursting with character and filled with unique furniture pieces and artwork that perfectly reflects our sophisticated clients personality.

This family expanded their living space with a new family room extension with a large bathroom and a laundry room. The new roomy family room has reclaimed beams on the ceiling, porcelain wood look flooring and a wood burning fireplace with a stone facade going straight up the cathedral ceiling. The fireplace hearth is raised with the TV mounted over the reclaimed wood mantle. The new bathroom is larger than the existing was with light and airy porcelain tile that looks like marble without the maintenance hassle. The unique stall shower and platform tub combination is separated from the rest of the bathroom by a clear glass shower door and partition. The trough drain located near the tub platform keep the water from flowing past the curbless entry. Complimenting the light and airy feel of the new bathroom is a white vanity with a light gray quartz top and light gray paint on the walls. To complete this new addition to the home we added a laundry room complete with plenty of additional storage and stackable washer and dryer.

This loft space was transformed into a cozy media room, as an additional living / family space for entertaining. We did a textural lime wash paint finish in a light gray color to the walls and ceiling for added warmth and interest. The dark and moody furnishings were complimented by a dark green velvet accent chair and colorful vintage Turkish rug.

If you’re lucky enough to have more than one reception room then you have a bit more freedom when deciding what to do with your secondary space. Families with children or just young-at-heart adults could opt for a family room or games room; whether it’s a pool or snooker table room, a comfy relaxation or TV area, a video games haven, a playroom packed with toys or a sports room with accompanying bar. Usually games rooms are naturally fun, recreational spaces so it’s important that the furnishings are functional but enjoyable with an emphasis on comfort, storage, games and entertainment. If you have the scope, family room extensions are a great way of extending from your kitchen or other area of your house to create a whole new, dedicated family space or games room. Basements are also wonderfully suited to house games rooms as they are usually soundproof and secluded so that loud games, films and cheers of success or failure won’t be heard next door or upstairs. Add coffee tables and side tables for holding glasses and plates (if they’re allowed), books, magazines and all the other knick-knacks that accumulate in a family room. If you have small children, be mindful of free floor space for any rough-and-tumble and bump-able surfaces. A cosy rug will be a great addition but make sure it doesn’t easily slip under fast moving feet! Snooker, billiards and pool tables will keep competitive spirits busy but if you don’t have the room, table football could be a more suitable option. Photographs, artwork, colour schemes and textures that reflect the essence of your household will add charm and promote a sense of comfort and relaxation for your family. Fill the room with features your family love – films, board games, books, music and perhaps sports memorabilia. Keep decor functional and practical – pristine white upholstery and rugs are probably not the ticket for the hustle and bustle of a games or family room. If you love light or neutral tones family room ideas that could work include light leather sofas, which will be easy to clean in the case of any spills, and soft coloured cushions and throws that can be thrown in the washing machine whenever necessary.
