Centered on seamless transitions of indoor and outdoor living, this open-planned Spanish Ranch style home is situated atop a modest hill overlooking Western San Diego County. The design references a return to historic Rancho Santa Fe style by utilizing a smooth hand troweled stucco finish, heavy timber accents, and clay tile roofing. By accurately identifying the peak view corridors the house is situated on the site in such a way where the public spaces enjoy panoramic valley views, while the master suite and private garden are afforded majestic hillside views. A beautiful home was surrounded by an old and poorly laid out landscape before our firm was called in to evaluate ways to re-organize the spaces and pull the whole look together for the rich and refined tastes of this client. Today they are proud to entertain at poolside where there is now enough space to have over-flowing parties. A vine covered custom wood lattice arbor successfully hides the side of the garage while creating a stunning focal point at the shallow end of the pool. An intimate courtyard garden is just a step outside the Master Bedroom where the sounds of the central water fountain can be heard throughout the house and lush plantings, cobblestone paving and low iron rail accents transport you to New Orleans. The front yard and stone entry now truly reflect this home’s incredible interior and a charming rose garden, that was once an unused lawn area, leads to a secret garden.

Concrete stepping pads floating in basin create an interesting flow of water circulation and reflections. In the background is a fire pit retreat with build in western red cedar seat benches. Benches were designed with waterproof cushion and pillow storage underneath.

A family of snowbirds hired us to design their South Floridian getaway inspired by old Hollywood glamor. Film, repetition, reflection and symmetry are some of the common characteristics of the interiors in this particular era. This carried through to the design of the apartment through the use of rich textiles such as velvets and silks, ornate forms, bold patterns, reflective surfaces such as glass and mirrors, and lots of bright colors with high-gloss white moldings throughout. In this introduction you’ll see the general molding design and furniture layout of each space. The ceilings in this project get special treatment – colorful patterned wallpapers are found within the applied moldings and crown moldings throughout each room. The elevator vestibule is the Sun Room – you arrive in a bright head-to-toe yellow space that foreshadows what is to come. The living room is left as a crisp white canvas and the doors are painted Tiffany blue for contrast. The girl’s room is painted in a warm pink and accented with white moldings on walls and a patterned glass bead wallpaper above. The boy’s room has a more subdued masculine theme with an upholstered gray suede headboard and accents of royal blue. Finally, the master suite is covered in a coral red with accents of pearl and white but it’s focal point lies in the grandiose white leather tufted headboard wall.

Embodying the owner’s love for modern ranch house architecture, this innovative home, designed with Feldman Architecture, sits lightly on its site and connects outwards to the Preserve’s landscape. We located the structure at the lowest point between surrounding hills so that it would be as visually inconspicuous as possible. Rammed earth walls, built using earth excavated from the site, define outdoor living spaces and serve to retain the soil along the edges of the drive and at patio spaces. Within the outdoor living spaces surrounding the buildings, native plants are combined with succulents and ornamental plants to contrast with the open grassland and provide a rich setting for entertaining, while garden areas to the south are stepped and allowed to erode on the edges, blending into the hillside. Sitting prominently adjacent to the home, three tanks capture rainwater for irrigation and are a clear indication of water available for the landscape throughout the year. Stunning patio features Holland Stone pavers with an inset Mega Arbel circle. For added definition we designed a double soldiers course to surround the inset circle. The built-in grill surround adds definition to the space and the fire pit surrounded by seat walls creates an inviting space for entertaining. ~ Hoffman Estates, IL http://chicagoland.archadeck.com/

This lovely couple just moved to del mar and wanted to update their existing landscaping, they wanted to make their slope more usable and have some curb appeal. We transformed their slope into a small grove by building some wood terraces with a staircase so that way they can easily access their new fruit trees. The client also wanted a small office for them to be able to work from home, we were able to do that for them by mimicking the color and aesthetics of their residence but on a smaller scale. They also wanted to have some shade covering in their backyard and we designed this stunning cantilever so that way they can enjoy their backyard all year long! Overall the couple was left very happy and are now enjoying their newly revamped backyard.
