One thing I'd do differently in our kitchen (and bathrooms) would be to put in full extension drawers instead of 3/4 extension. The drawers are nice and big, but it's awkward to access what's at the back. I do like having cupboards right up to the 10 foot ceiling- a small stepladder in our pantry makes it easy to access rarely used dishes, roasters, vases, etc.

When remodeling our kitchen 2+ years ago, our designer had us take pictures of what was in each cabinet and drawer. We were then supposed to place each item in each cabinet/drawer from the ‘old kitchen’ into the new design before any construction started. Yes, it took a good day to start, a bit of teeth mashing, then a relook at our initial design. With some modifications to the design, at the end of the day, we ended up changing the ‘wing-shaped’ island/eating bar into a huge single slab rectangle island, all drawers on the lowers, upper cabinets to the ceiling, electrical outlets under the lip/overhang of the island slab to be virtually unnoticeable with easy access, wine cooler and a 42” sink. Total kitchen drawers: 24; cabinet doors: 18. It is truly

beautiful, efficient and we love it!

I made sure every lower cabinet was equipped with roll-out drawers, not shelves. What a difference it makes when locating items, and maneuvering bulky or heavy items.

Another must was having a cupboard for trash and recyclables. Nothing downgrades the appearance of a kitchen like open trash, even if the waste cans are considered “attractive.”
