Kitchen at a Glance
Who lives here: A family of four and a dog
Location: Happy Valley, California
Size: 850 square feet (79 square meters)
Designer: Kimberley Harrison Interiors
The backstory: The original kitchen was completely closed off from an adjacent family room and lacked an island. Everything was ripped out, the ceiling was lifted, walls were moved, new windows were put in and the floor was redone. The homeowners’ main request: something different from an all-white kitchen.
Island: One of the biggest additions to the kitchen is the custom-made island painted in Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore. The end legs are bleached sycamore.
Countertops: The perimeter countertops are basaltina, while the island is honed Luce di Luna quartzite.
Backsplashes: The range wall features graphic tile, while the sink wall is covered in Snow White marble subway tile. “We invested a bit more money into the tilework on the range wall because the homeowners wanted a focal point that was fun,” says designer Kimberley Harrison.
Tile on range wall: Marmara in Dolomite, Skyline vein-cut, Marble Systems
