Squeeze in a table
If you can find the space, it’s useful to fit a table into your kitchen. Family mealtimes, of course, work better around a table, but that’s probably not all you’ll use it for. A clear surface will provide an area for kids to do arts, crafts, Lego and homework while you get on with the cooking.
A space-saving option is to build in some banquette seating, which will allow everyone to sit around the table comfortably.
It also pays not to be too precious about your table, as paint splashes, scuffs and stains are hard to avoid with children around. Alternatively, cover the surface with an oilcloth to keep it as protected as possible.

We found the kids constantly used the stools at the kitchen bench to do their homework. That way I could easily answer questions or step in to help while getting dinner. The only thing was they HAD to pack away as soon as they finished, which was great as it probably wouldn’t have happened if they’d been at their desks in their bedrooms!
For a family kitchen with buttlers pantry that has a stove top as well, will open shelves work? Won't fume make things in shelves sticky?
I agree with cassandrascott24 about the island shoehorned in. There isn't a lot of room to breathe but that said we only have the photo from one side to judge. Its very true about island envy. Why not have your kitchen along the walls and then if you really want one and are prepared to sacrifice the space buy a dry (no services) island to contrast. The only limit would be your imagination. If you move its also easier for someone else to change if they don't like it. The organisation station is genius. I'm stealing that idea.
