My favourite is the DHV design as it's spacious and light with a variety of views into the garden. This has been achieved by not having an island which is so often totally impractical as most kitchens do not have enough space to accommodate them. It seems that an island has become a 'must have' but why do you need another lot of seating when you already have a table and chairs, you just end up cramming everything in and it restricts access to cupboards etc instead of letting the space flow. I believe 'less is more' thereby removing the necessity for additional storage to keep things you don't need.

jillyhilltop - that's exactly what I was thinking - all of these examples might give us some ideas but all of the spaces are huge - too big for my taste. I rather like cosy kitchen diners - not cramped, but not with great expanses of floor, at least.

I can't see the point of bar stools, particularly when the table and chairs are right behind them. Photo 8 has the sofa arrangement with its back to the garden, which seems a shame. And yes, these are vast kitchens that most people will never own so it's difficult to draw inspiration to suit the matchbox version.
