to answer both HU-750204909 and HU-700101767 the floor is laid with ceramic tiles that emulate limestone. Yes they are unforgiving if a breakable item is dropped but really easy to keep clean and work very well with underfloor heating. The clients are an almost retired couple with a small dog. They were delighted with the choice which was both practical and the style that they wanted.

I'll have to beg to differ Nicky Percival. Something so light in colour and with very little pattern cannot possibly be practical in a kitchen, even if it is easy to clean. I'm sure it is "easy to clean", but there's a difference between being easy to clean and wanting to do it with the frequency that a floor like that would obviously require. Life's way too short for that. Of course, if I was a high-net-worth individual with a couple of servants - well, fine, I'd spec a floor like that and someone else could keep it looking its best.

Can see light floors impractical for a farmhouse say, but cannot anticipate muddy boots in this situation! Whatever colour a floor is has practical difficulties - dark floors show every crumb, sprinkle of flour, dust, and most irritatingly the wipe marks from a mop!
