@rach1922 - most roses and flowering climbers need a sunny position to thrive, but I think there are a few roses that can cope with a shadier site. If you go on the RHS website (Royal Horticultural Society) and search for Roses for a north facing wall, or climbers for a north facing wall, you may find something?

Beware - Pyracantha has vicious thorns and pruning is a painful nightmare. It is often used as a hedging plant to deter burglars. My favourite climbing rose Blush Noisette is pale pink and keeps on delivering from early summer to Autumn. It has all the attributes I look for in a climber near the front door: rich clove scent, continuous flowering, very few thorns, disease resistant and will climb up to around 10 feet without becoming over-vigorous.
