In a congested city jostling with 2-BHKs, 3-BHKs and studio apartments, it is rather rare to come across a home that boasts six bedrooms. Two five-bedroom apartments were combined to make one large, expansive home.
For the interiors, the client sought the services of Manish Dikshit of Aum Architects. “His wish was to not have one overriding decor theme but to have all bedrooms and public spaces as unique, distinctive areas. Not all 10 rooms were retained functionally as a bedrooms – three were converted into private boudoirs for the clients, three into guest bedrooms, one into a playroom, two into offices and one into a multi-purpose room. The client entertains large number of people often and wanted his home to be an extensive, welcoming retreat,” Dikshit says.

The waiting room is highlighted by a wooden herringbone ceiling and powder-blue furniture that comprises sofas and a fourposter seater. “The waiting room was created to curtail the entry of most visitors into the more private areas of the home. This room is also an informal lounging space for the family. We chose white brick cladding to accentuate the interior windows that filter natural light from the dining area,” Dikshit says.

The expansive living room is a modern, vibrant space replete with custom furniture and lighting pieces. “The clients are devotees of Lord Krishna and wanted some element to represent him in the living room. So, we chose a blue palette in the formal seating to reflect the same. The challenge was to have a very modern treatment of something very traditional. The feature wall in this area is a consolidation of three components – a turquoise texture wall, a custom-made marble feature (that forms the focus of this wall) and a wooden partition overlapping the texture paint,” Dikshit says.

The formal living room flows into this second waiting lobby that leads to the personal offices.
Next to the voluminous living room is the dining room that houses a customised 12-seater table in wood and veneer. “A delicate decorative light was selected for the dining area to complement the heavy dining table,” Dikshit says.
The dining room opens to a spacious deck that is accentuated with faux grass and wooden decking.

“The master bedroom for the young couple was envisioned as a cosy space filled with classical elements,” Dikshit says. The warmth of the walnut veneer on the furniture is contrasted with the richness of the champagne gold leaf on the accessories.

Bedroom 2
The grandfather’s bedroom is done in mid-century modern style. “No clutter, with minimal ornamentation, was integral to the design. The finish on the bed panels is in high-gloss polymer, which adds to the no-fuss look of the room. With minimal requirements from the client, a form-follows-function concept was taken into account,” Dikshit says.

The second guestroom is lit by plenty of natural light and recessed lighting from the ceiling. “The headboard is in green fabric with brass button detailing. The soft furnishings in the room are eclectic and diverse, and complement the artwork fixed on the wall behind the bed,” Dikshit says.

“The third guest bedroom has a strong geometric design language, as is evident through the headboard. Clean lines, walnut laminate and hues of indigo blue dominate the room,” Dikshit says.
