At number 3…
The creative transformation of this Leeds loft into a Scandi-tinged retreat is down to Karen Knox of Making Spaces, who also lives here.
The bedroom is at the top of a 1960s semi, and just some of the standout features include an exposed brick wall, industrial-style lighting with exposed metal conduits, huge windows and a striking poplar plywood floor. “I’ve always loved plywood,” says Knox. “I really didn’t want carpet in the loft and I felt proper floorboards would look too posh.”

The room is officially a guest room, but Knox says she and her family make good use of it, too.
“It’s lovely to come up in the morning with a cup of tea, and we often sit here in the evening and look out over our garden, watching the solar lights pop on.”

Well, this one’s a bit of a curveball. As you probably know, Houzz is an international platform, with 15 Houzz sites around the world, including one in Russia – where this super-cool teenage girl’s bedroom is.
We often publish stories from our sister sites when we think they’ll grab your attention, and we just had a hunch with this storage-packed bedroom in Moscow… Rightly so, it seems.

At the heart of the space, designed by INT2architecture, is the large, open, plywood cube, which incorporates the bed as well as numerous shelves, drawers and an ingenious pull-out wardrobe.
Elsewhere in the room, there’s a blackboard wall – a key part of the brief from 13-year-old Dasha, whose room it is – and a generous-sized homework desk.
A very cool touch is the sliding white wall, onto which TV shows can be projected from Dasha’s laptop.

This glamorous top floor bedroom is another design by Karen Knox of Making Spaces. We love a good before and after and so, it would seem, do you.

The large room, which occupies the top floor of a semi-detached Edwardian house, previously looked like this.
If you’ve ever wondered whether going dark in a bedroom is the right idea, this space is an excellent advert for taking the plunge – as you can see in the next photo.

From the inky velvet curtains to the shadowy botanic-print wallpaper and sleek black floor, this room really goes for it. And the result is anything but gloomy. Rather, it’s become elegant, striking and full of interest, thanks to plants, pink and green accents – in the wallpaper and armchairs – and a huge, light-boosting mirror, keep the black from being overbearing.
If you recently watched the BBC adaptation of Howards End, you’ll recognise a nod to the Edwardian era of the house in here: it’s elegant yet inviting and a little bit boho. And what an inviting combination – we’d be quite happy to be in that window chair right now, with a nice cup of tea and a classic novel for the afternoon.

What first attracted you to this light and bright guest bedroom design? We’re putting our money on its ingenious use of space.
That sleeping platform/home office is epically multi-functional: aside from doubling as a guest bed and a meditation area (the homeowners met on a retreat, so this was a key part of the brief for the designer, Kia Stanford of Kia Designs), it also houses a pop-up office. In addition, there’s a cupboard in which to hide the stool and deep storage drawers that can easily accommodate chunky seasonal items, such as winter coats and bedding.
