A bedroom should be a calm sanctuary in which to relax and unwind, and layering up soft textures can help to create a soothing feel.
In this room designed by Kathryn Porter Interiors, a number of sumptuous textures have been layered up: a cotton muslin bedspread, deep-pile carpet, bouclé armchair and woven wardrobe doors.
The chandelier provides contrast while underscoring the overall luxe feel, and the built-in dressing table/desk adds functionality without encroaching on floor space.

Everything in this room by Nicola O’Mara Interior Design is designed to draw the eye to the stunning view through its wall-to-wall sliding glass doors. The furniture and decor are set up to draw a line to the outside.
The long run of wardrobe doors could easily have been a visual distraction, but Nicola has used neutral tones and pared-back design to visually blend them into the background.

4. Create character with colour
Colour is an instant way to bring personality and interest to a bedroom. In this design, Brooke Copp-Barton has used a confident pink and blue colour scheme to create a cosy and coherent feel.
The blue headboard, lamp and bench seat visually draw on the rich blue of the artwork overhead. This contrasts with the soft pink wall colour, which the bedspread and cushion pick up. Notice also the two green and yellow cushions; they add a dynamic touch while again making reference to the artwork and tying all the elements of the room together.

If space is at a premium, a bespoke approach can help to make the most of every last bit of space. This small bedroom by Drawn Interior Design is full of clever design features that do just that.
The floating bedside tables ensure the eye goes right to the wall, keeping the look open, while fitting wall-mounted reading lights allowed the designer to keep the tables on the tiny side.
The headboard, meanwhile, is deliberately shallow, no deeper than the skirting board, so it doesn’t push the bed out into the room too much, but the slim wooden ledge on the top doubles as a picture rail for a touch of added interest.
