The Houzz website lacks the most widespread 50s semi kitchen design with the L-shaped units on one side, straight units on the other side and the back door in between. I just can't find anything satisfactory with that design!!!
I think the breakfast bar thing is more for someone to keep you company and chat while you cook. I sometimes eat my at the breakfast bar but not always
I agree with Lizzy- for me its about removing the isolation a cook can often feel, if there is somewhere for family/ guest guests to sit while meal prep-ing.
