Terrazzo has been back on the design radar for a couple of years now and is only becoming more popular. And with good reason. Decorative, durable and largely made from recycled materials, it’s a great choice for anything from kitchen worktops and flooring to side tables and light shades.
Terrazzo is a composite material that traditionally consists of marble chips bound together by either cement or resin, but it’s also possible to find versions containing glass, flint, granite and even mother-of-pearl, so the colour and pattern possibilities are huge.
Browse these designs to see how terrazzo can add interest to any scheme, and as a taster of the many ways to use this eco-friendly material.

Hi Mummy Fish No 22 is a terrazzo basin and in No 7 the pendant lights are terrazzo (see them here Room Tour: A Low-cost Extension That’s a Triumph of Clever Design) Good luck with your renovation
Thanks Sarah Alcroft. Clearly my eyes are worse than I realised as I'm struggling to see that, but at least I know where they're supposed to be.
Mummy Fish. We are renovating and extending a mid century house and feel the same about being trendy in terms of the design. Absolutely love terrazzo, slatted screens etc but keep getting put off by the sort of instagram trends which appear to take many references from the 60’s and 70’s……..
But we are likely going for a bold terrazzo from Diespeker for the kitchen and bathroom worktops. Definitely more choice out there but hopefully lots of people will continue to buy 50 shades of grey in paint, wall and floor tiles and also geometrical too!
