The 2025 UK Houzz Renovations & Relationships Report explores how couples navigate home renovations together from the biggest sources of conflict to how they feel about their home once the dust settles.

Renovation Is Worth It, Even When It’s Tough
The majority of couples describe renovating together as collaborative (43%) or fulfilling (41%). Still, 16% admit they considered separating or divorcing during the process. That share jumps to 20% for couples together five years or less, compared with just 7% for couples in relationships of 30 years or more.
Kiya Kelly
Despite the challenges, nearly all couples (89%) say the end result made the journey worthwhile. Many reported feeling more comfortable (59%), happier (53%), more organised (42%) and calmer (39%) in their newly renovated homes.

Common Points of Conflict
The most frequent sources of tension include staying on budget (37%), agreeing on style (31%), selecting products, materials or finishes (31%) and communicating (25%).

Paint colours (51%), flooring (47%) and furniture (38%) are also frequent sticking points.
