I've enjoyed using a raised shelf for a couple of large appliances. My kitchen is 20 years old and still the idea works very well as they are at a good level to use but off the main shelf. The toaster as you can see is below.
A slow cooker and mixer are other appliances I would consider storing like this if there was room in my kitchen but they are in base cupboards.
Kazymich, I would like a variation on 16 with tambour doors sliding down over a long benchtop. All appliances could be left plugged in and when you've finished you could just pull the shutter down. You would need a long bench top though... one day, maybe!
