Contemporary Guesthouse
Smith & Vansant replaced a two-story garage & bunk house at a family compound perched above a Vermont lake. Due to many restrictions, we went vertical with our design. We used color blocking to downplay the mass of the bunkhouse tower. Colors and finishes and spaces are light, airy, and contemporary, as a deliberate contrast to the other camps the family shares in the group.
She collected quilts, and wanted the bunkhouse to reflect that. This was particularly done with the FLOR carpet tiles at the walk out bottom floor, and the birch plywood walls.
