My Project
The slat design looks like it could provide shade and match what is existing. Eve: this would provide good shade but not protection from rain. The knee brace - the arches pieces from post to beam - decrease the beam span so it can be a smaller size.
I like how simple it is and that it matches the house. Eve: This is really pretty. The fully covered roof will protect from rain. Do you prefer the peaked roof to the single, sloped plane that we'd discussed?
this appears to be raised again less expensive than a solid roof and matches what is there.
Again, the slats are very close to their and may offer enough filtered lighting. The one at Sierra Nevada in the back is raised in the middle and then flattens out on both sides. Might consider that kind of pergola. Eve: This is very pretty but would be expensive. Changing roof levels will drive up the cost. Also, I recommend against painted wood outside, especially with so many small pieces; it is a maintenance nightmare.
Again this pergola matches what I have and allows for lighting and probably could hold a fan although I am wondering if the fan is necessary. If the slats are close enough together it offers shade and the plant can grow on it. Eve: the larger lumber on the roof give this one a heavier look. I like the curved knee braces of the other image that you save although these straight knee braces would be less expensive
The fans and the columns are nice it is also solid and may offer more shade. Eve: Yes, this will be shadier and also protect more from rain.
I like that it can tilt and that I might grow the stuff on it that is now growing on my current thing like this. It matches and may be less expensive. Eve: Putting the beams in the same plane as the rafters creates a thinner, lighter profile.
I like the angle here and the simplicity of the design. Eve: this will provide protection from rain. Positioning the high side of the roof on the long diagonal section that faces toward the house will make allow you to see into the pergola from the house while hiding the top of the roof.
I like the variety of color texture and height
