If we went wood with (some) cupboards, and wood with floor, this example suggests it might be a good idea to have different shades of wood for floor and cupboards.
exposed joists above kitchen. Could look interesting and give more height on what is otherwise a low ceiling. Also shows what you can do for lights instead of spots lights if you go for joists. However, I imagine this approach means you would have to have the steel beams exposed, and I don't know how joists would attach to beams, so might look ugly!
