House Interior Ideas
I like having a cozy comfortable outside area. Love the swing
I like the rustic and contrast and textures
Share for window seat with bookcases on each side - would like light sconces on inside of bookcases so can read or light dining table.
Pool Idea - we are thinking a bit above ground to keep nature's visitors out and could be stone surround. Overall we want 5 feet deep and narrow but wide enough to spread my arms - maybe 6 feet wide by 16 feet long. Our preference is built in as compared to a drop in fiberglass pool.
The fireplace as the focal point is what we are looking for only maybe with more of a taper at the top of the inglenook - but this would be more than fine if needed for structure. Like the ceiling and the stone together with the chairs in front of the fireplace.
Fireplace stone is the reason for this photo. We like the drystack for the inglenook
Another home with the colors of the Alps - a bit too modern for us
Colors - I added this photo because it has a good mix of the colors I mentioned - brown, white, gray, black - the colors of the Alps.
I like the contrasts in this home - the dark and light, the rustic and modern, the textures and the simple.
Colors - I like the calm colors. I want to honor the natural beauty - and the outside will be cedar that will weather. The inside I like the idea of the calming colors of the mountains we are now living near - I have photos of the mountains for inspiration and rocks I have picked up on hikes to inform - the gray, white, brown, black - it is all very calming. That said - I also love colors that bring a smile - teal, yellow, fuchia - so maybe the ADU can be the colorful place and the main house the calming space.
Bookshelves - I have added this photo to give an idea of the warmth a wall of bookshelves provides. This has the dining table near which is what I would like - almost a library dining area. Will allow us to be surrounded by our memories as we share new ones.
Flooring - I am adding this photo for the wide plank floors. Love wide plank!
This gives a bit of an idea of our wall of windows in the kitchen with no upper cabinets, a stove in front of the window, and a seating area at table height on one side of the counter. The style is not my taste - the light is too much, etc.
Share this because my husband and I spend all of our time in our two chairs (the chairs will need to be replaced for this new home) - the idea of only having chairs in the living room is okay - and space may require that. We don't really use a sofa, so 4 chairs may be a good living room option to allow for guest seating.
I share this photo because I like the mix of dark wood but light fabrics and walls. I am drawn to the contrast of light and dark of hard and soft. This feels warm and inviting to me.
share this to provide thoughts on beams and lighting - plus to show the open wall - we will have a wall of glass that opens to the water. And will have high ceilings with the beams - are working with Greg to incorporate wood beams throughout but need to work through the need of beams vs. the look of beams. Also, need to think how we do task lighting over the kitchen counters without any cabinets.
Sharing this photo to say it is too rustic - but do like the hardwoods and like the stone slab floor but think may be not good for aging in place. We plan to have a stone inglenook with wood burning stove and hearth,
This is another window and seating and shelf idea. I like the warmth of the wood - but the walls are too dark, I think. We are very focused on light in our home because we realize one side of the house will have few windows while one side is glass. So, want to design for light!
We plan to have an amazing stove. I share this photo because I also want to have bookshelves for my cookbooks and I love to display my cast iron cookware, etc. But I don't like to dust! I also love the windowsheet and the best we have been able to figure out is to include one in the dining area with bookshelves on one side similar to this.
This photo is to share our thoughts on kitchen to outdoor living window - we will have an outdoor living space outside the kitchen - and I asked for a passthrough to make it easy to move food etc. between the two. However, now the sink will be in the middle of the window - which may be useful for water, etc. but it will be a bit clunky as it won't be fully open like this photo.
Sharing this photo because I need the pantry to include a counter with lighting and electric for those large appliances that I don't want to lift but want to easily use. So far that includes - standmixer, food processor, blender, etc. My original thought was a rolling cart that could go from pantry to kitchen but that has evolved to counter space in the pantry which means work space and a possible sink - it is almost becoming a second kitchen which I don't really want.
Sharing this because it is a stove without a backsplash. Currently the kitchen is a U shape with windows above the counter on two sides and the third side facing the living space. So, the stove would go under one window and the sink under another. Not sure about the stove under a window but don't want to give up the open counter to the living space.
This photo is to share ideas on kitchen storage - we like having a pot rack and would need a fairly large one for our cookware. Also, like having the open shelving for ease. And like the charm of the old island. We have a large oak hutch that we got at an antique market in Belgium - we use it for our overflow platters, vases, cookware, etc. I would like to incorporate that into the design. I like the idea of furniture as kitchen counters, etc.
This photo is to share the ceiling - like the rustic beams - but not sure about all wood - prefer contrast of light and beams to draw attention to the beams.
