SYH: 2503
BW: this is cool CHW: a little too saturated for me but I like the idea of it. SY: I was just trying to mimic that wool dhurrie you pinned from west elm really - it no longer seems to be available.
Just trying to think how to fun up this space for CW while keeping it clean and modern for BW. BW: I like this one too CHW: I like this one. SY: great
wool and big enough - west elm stacked stripes rug BW: not bad CHW: meh. SY: check.
SY: if I'm to trust google, this is newberg green on a cabinet. I think it's better than hale navy. More interesting than a straight up navy.
SY: newberg green cabinets again
SY: lights and rugs working hard here to make this space warm and interesting...
SY: again, could the chairs here be the Caitlin and the cabinets be the Brad? :) CHW: we agree. SY: great, ok.
SY: again, here, a mix: simple, clean black, white, and wood ... AND THEN THE CHAIRS. (Also, like these lights? I do!) CHW: I like the color of the chairs and the light looks cool BW: color of chairs is good but not the material; the "mesh"; light looks good as long as it gives enough light. SY: thumbs up on all fronts. Now we are cooking!
SY: here, the stools jazz up an otherwise very starkly modern space. thoughts on this kind of thing (if not this exact thing, BW! :) as the happy medium for you both - the clean modern + the fun eclectic pop? CHW: Yes perfect! Love the orange or chartreuse ;) SY: excellent.
SY: contrast white chairs, with beat lamps. Love. Thoughts for your space? CHW: looks awesome! A bench would also be cool. SY: great, because you don't have enough of the white chairs, right? :)
SY: I would love contrasting chairs at your table, I must say. These, or Eames... white or black .... or maybe even a pop of color... Also what about this chandelier? You pinned this. CHW: I pinned this for the table but the chandelier is cool too! I have 4 "eames" tulip/shell swivel chairs. SY: excellent! Perfect for one side and the ends, with a bench on the other side.
SY: nice rug ! your pin. still like it?
SY: Again, the rug here is doing a lot to give an otherwise very simple space a lot of depth and personality. Like 816, the difference between the architectural backdrop and the decorated space is huge: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-P8FUQJTxj/
SY: does this rug count as a pop of something interesting? I'm looking for evidence in your boards of ideas for bits of eclecticism, etc, like you said you like - it's hard to find in your pins! lol CHW: Ha! I guess it is hard to find in my pins. I think a lot of the more eclectic pics are in the "for the home" board
SY: black lowers, wood & white uppers...
SY: So, this has the dark cabinets on wood floors - with dark tops and a marble splash. (It is partial because there are not upper cabinets.) We would spec real marble behind a stove rather than quartz. You have said marble or concrete countertops: tell me more. Real material? Looks like? Everywhere or partial? Does this image feel good to you? It's kinda very elegant feeling...CHW: as far as real vs look like, I think we’d go for best value/lowest maintenance; we agree this one is kinda schmancy for us. SY: got it
SY: hmmmmmmm. Do you like these blue gray lower cabinets or do you prefer blacker? CHW: I actually really like hale navy. Still super dark. SY: me too. SY: following up. So not this color, right? Or a greenier-navy like Newberg Green? CHW: I am leaning toward a darker color than Newberg. BW: not sure
SY: obv this wood floor is too rustic for you, but the black base cabinets and white marble splash are pretty great and in keeping with that recent image you shared. I would think you would not want to lose all the uppers on both walls of the perimeter, correct? (East of the fridge and pantry and also above sink?) Also talk to me about cookbook shelves? need any? CHW: cookbook shelves would be lovely! But I don’t have too many of them and they live in one of my kitchen cabinets taking up valuable food real estate; we definitely don’t want to lose all of those uppers; BW: really like the contrast of the shelves in the island. SY: ok and me too, BW.
SY: this is a nice effect with the full height dark cabinetry and also the black accent lines on the wood cabinetry (which would just be finger pulls like at 816). Still too much wood on wood for you? CHW: yes SY: ok!
SY: this is a larger room pic of one of your kitchen images. Wood cabinets on wood floors but broken up by black backsplash, white counters, and cool wood beams on the ceiling. (Your ceiling will be flat over kitchen, but vaulted - and all white I think - over dining/living.) Is this room feeling right to you overall in terms of contrast and variance of materials and tones? CHW: I feel this leans a little warm/yellowish overall and might need a little more cool. We both agree this would be a great air bnb we’d love to score for the whole summer ;) SY: right? I'd like to go there now and I'd like it to be on a beach where they speak a different language.
SY: zia tile 2x8 midnight blue. Blue? Or do you prefer black? CHW: for the bathroom or kitchen? SY: kitchen. (But sure, both, I guess.). CHW: a little too dark, but the blueish tone is lovely
SY: open up to see full effect. Not the best pic, and the reverse (dark on bottom, light on top) but it works in a normal height room. Thoughts? CHW: Touche! I like it with the white on the bottom and dark on top. SY: right, yours would be reversed.
CHW/BW: We like this variation better than that other one with the multiple wood tones and circle finger pulls. The tone of this wood, full backsplash, dark lowers, light floors are great. SY: got it, ok! We clearly need to mix in some dark elements more than the image below show. CHW: after looking at these, we have both come to the conclusion that we would like light wood floors, dark lowers, light/white counters and backsplash, and light natural wood uppers with the dark lowers carrying up past the fridge onto the larder. SY: lol, ok! Clear enough. May I tweak that a bit in context if necessary? :) Don't get too attached to the preliminary plans while we're still developing it! :) CHW: I have to put my blinders on and stay the course ? SY: lol, yes, please.
SY: Sidenote: if you ever redo the kids or hall bath can you please do this? CHW: this is one of those images that shrinks when you click on it:( except now I can see the whole thing on my phone ??♀️ Anyway, gorgeous, love it!
SY: just the line of dark around the top of the bathroom is super intriguing...chw: I love this look but don’t think it will work in a standard height room. SY: I do! Did it at Martinez. Will add a pic. LMK your thoughts.
SY: love the vanity here - you? maple finish, nice function, chuncky concrete-ish counter...; CHW: love the counters, not sure if I like being able to see the box framing (if that's what it's called)
SY: apparently we can do them in stone? this is granite it says. CHW: our friend in Nashville,TN just did a black shower base, I'll ask him what it is made of; CHW: Our friend's is acrylic but he said it doesn't look cheap because it's black. SY: right, my thinking too. Actually I don't mind them in white either in the right context.
SY: maybe? I'm telling you as a friend, grout sucks. If I had a shower with a threshold, I'd consider a solid base.
SY: this effect perhaps but with your little black 2x8 tiles going up the wall... Large format on the other walls to minimize grout. How do you feel about a solid base - I bet they come in black. Could look sleek and simple and be GROUT FREE and very affordable...
SY: So, we have options for windows in your new ensuite shower. Could be a big situation like this! But would be all frosted. If we just put a clerestory up high, you'd see actual sky and green and maintain all your privacy... CHW/BW: we are going to stick with a clerestory window. If we do a partially frosted (which looks cool) we feel it will be a bit of a peep show for our neighbors behind us when we shower at night. SY: aok
SY: easy clerestory window in your shower. Also: your wallpaper on the floor! I kinda love that... though it's grout heavy.
SY: the partially frosted window in the shower option
SY: you can also frost a portion of a window. so cool.
SY: We have a similar layout for your new ensuite bathroom. I love this continuous ledge - we're doing it in 2585. Would you dig it? CHW: love it. SY: thumbs up
SY: penny tile stripes in shower? CHW: not digging it. SY: ok!
SY: ledge capping penny tile looks like you? maybe that penny runs into the shower walls in some cool way....CHW: love the ledge cap! I do pin a lot of penny tiles, but I worry about the installation when they aren’t done right you can see the line between sheets; I feel a hex tile might solve that issue. SY: well obv they must be installed correctly
SY: love all your images of dark aligned elongated tile!
SY: this is so simple and pretty - looks like 1214's kitchen palette. Most of your bathroom images are black and white, heavy on penny and hex and other smallish mosaic tile. Talk to me about any strong inclinations for an ensuite bath - we can go in pretty much any direction on your pinterest board as I love them all. :)
SY: what do you like about this? CHW: I think I pinned this because of the dining table when we were still looking for one. SY: you have new chairs, right? The ones pictured in drive?
SY: another painted stone fireplace. I love this whole palette of furniture.... Did you give us dims of your sofa and other reusable furniture... ? ... oh yes I see you did :)
SY: do you think you'll do custom cabinets? and beyond that even, invest in bells and whistles like these finger pulls or the integrated rails in so many of these inspo images? (Obv I'm in favor, but I want to be realistic for what you are thinking will be possible and likely.) chw/bw: we prefer the top finger rails similar to 816. Just simply routed. Circle pulls are out for us. SY: got it!
SY: love when the line of the rails ends at the right place. CHW: what are the rails? SY: sorry, finger pulls
SY: I love everything about this. Working on the windows, but how about the material mix here? Are we extending/refinishing your existing floor or laying all new wood? SY: this is so gorgeous. I'm just putting it here to ask you about your windows. Looks as if you have dark bronze-ish outside and wood inside? I know you want new trim everywhere. Are the windows themselves needing replaced (any that we don't touch, anyway), or are they new/ nice enough? If they stay, but we take away your wood trim, it leaves just the wood windows. A dark line, if not black or bronze - I think we can make that work. What are your thoughts?
