Above: The island is fitted with a sink, dishwasher, and induction cooktop. Additional storage is supplied by a cabinet wall pre-fabricated by Colorado-based CabParts that Marie and Todd painted (Farrow & Ball’s Strong White) and installed. In lieu of a range, they opted for a wall oven. The ladder on the wall leads to one of the two lofts at either end of the house.
exterior siding metal: thick horizontal lines https://www.bridgersteel.com/batten
exterior siding and roof (not sure if they're both metal) - not the color
Not the color or siding, not the horizontal accent line of red painted (wood?) & concrete, not the asphalt roof or landscaping - seems a bit stiff and like a mini office building. This has elements in mind for Buttermilk: the larger and black windows and doors, and longer soffit.
Really like the mix of seamed black metal with wood and concrete - elegant, muscular - and how the dimensions of the wood screen match the garage, including the height. [Maybe it's possible to mill the red cedar on the property to use for] color-blocked sections of wood exterior mixed with black metal siding, particularly on the south and west sides that receive full sun year-round, and/or to use as a screen giving privacy to a front porch as shown here. The only downside would be losing the northern light to the living room through the bay window, but two skylights are planned
corrugated (?) metal siding, and combination with wood
1960s ranch with part of basement brought to grade and finished with master bedroom and bath (photos of basement not available)
looks great but wind accident waiting to happen?
large, tall trellis would be great - this is more rustic wood and i'm leaning toward industrial/modern metal
extend roof to create front porch w/entrance like this?
the graduated stacked slab corner steps
narrow, floor-to-ceiling continuous (looking) firewood storage next to floor-to-ceiling fireplace mantel
shadows produced by screens
screens for light shading and textural elements
blue tile color, size and from ceiling waterfall placement - REALLY LIKE THIS
tile type, all the way from the ceiling down, and uniform color (but not this color), and shower nook going length of space between studs - PITA to clean? - compare to shower ledge
stainless sinks w/wood schemata - same in kitchen?
translucent glass for water closet in bathroom - vented above - glass options in different levels of transparency, which will reveal more or less to the eye. Keep in mind that while semitransparent glass will let in some light, it’s still usually best to include a light in the shower itself to achieve proper brightness.
blend: traditional and mid-century
double available?
for bath with limited space - half bath in bsmt?
minimal, wood, white, but would it work with blue waterfall tile shower? maybe too much i.e. the rest of bath may have to be a more uniform white so not to compete

greenhouse/solarium style
vaulted ceiling
Rather than using a standard 8-inch soffit with a perforated vinyl skin and a K-style gutter, look for ways to extend the roofline and introduce rafter tails, as in this example.
minimal office nook design. either next to fireplace (if staying) or in space where existing coat closet is outside kitchen. or both: two nooks, maybe other one has more storage/bookcase/drawers
BLACK CORRUGATED used on interior: 1) for fireplace to ceiling and 2) for built-ins on either side of fireplace (firewood storage and office nook) - both for aesthetic and cost-effectiveness?
Coffee station: pocket doors open to reveal a coffee maker atop a pullout shelf here. Note the water tap, which allows someone to fill the coffee maker without having to move it. The space was designed by In Detail Interiors.
Coffee station (not cabinets themselves - too paneled) with its own mini sink
Coffee station, plus color scheme espresso, white with pop of red (could be another color). Also like top shelving extending above door
Coffee station. Also like the deep blue interior with wood cabinets
The thick waterfall walnut counter and Cherner chairs provide a nice view from other rooms. “I intended this to be a clean-lined sculptural centerpiece element,” Smuland says. She made this side of the island bar-height so it could hide any kitchen messes from the adjacent living room.
broom closet next to fridge, over- and under-lighting in cabinets
I actually like this
Barn style doors on upper cabinets - not having to swing a door open and shut will make your kitchen feel just a bit bigger, and it makes a world of difference when two cooks are in the kitchen.
Jewel tones. Speaking of dark colors, after so many years of white kitchens being the dominant look, we’re definitely finding that more and more people are now choosing to use rich, deep hues, with jewel tones being particularly popular.
