Susan's ideas
I love the grand scale of this room and its nod to history. The ceiling is so high, with the medallion, original period light fixture, huge windows and huge mirror emphasizing the huge scale and size of the room. I love the chesterfield cream sofa against the bright red chairs, with the soft peach walls. I also love the other antiques in the background: the matching tables by the windows, the chair in between them, and the table under the mirror, and the coffee table. I do not love the modern style of the bright red chairs, They seem out of place in this room. So does the orange and blue lamp.
The colours (the neutral grey with the pop of bright pink and purple), the elegant mirror, the vignette/ gallery wall created by the pictures with the mirror in the middle as the focal point. This room feels soft, airy and feminine. It is interesting and colourful without being cluttered. I like how the bookcase is styled. The top of it does actually feel cluttered. This room looks like it is from someone's home, and that someone lives here, versus the photo below which seems like it is from a room that no one is living in.
The sofa that wraps around, the lack of clutter, it is so inviting. The round coffee table fits in nicely and compliments the angular sectional sofa. and angular console table. The formula goes masculine shape piece plus feminine shaped piece plus masculine shaped piece. Also notice the round stool and mirror that are part of this formula. This gives a feel of movement and visual interest. The different prints of the wallpaper and rugs also provide interest, although it is too much for me. I wish the wall was a solid colour. There is so much room for guests
I love the sense of drama in this room, that is created with this amazing mirror in between the two huge windows. The colour scheme is soothing: cream, green (curtains), gold, and peach. I also like the use of textures: cream velvet (couch), marble, the rug, the gold frame of the mirror, the peach leather of the stool, the rattan? lamp shade, the black metal and contour of the lamp, the blinds. This is so elegant and flows together effortlessly. Everything is soft and curvy except the mirror which seems rather phallic, and the marble coffee table which seems hard, heavy and angular against all the light cream and curving feminine things.
the colour palette is so soft, the loveseat is pretty close to the one I have, the gallery wall, the built in shelves with leaded glass doors, the fireplace This is from a house built in 1921. This is too black and white for my taste. But you can see how the designer used the color scale from white through all the grey tones all the way to black to add interest. This feels too strict, forced and unnatural to me. It feel severe, uptight, and curated. It looks like something out of a museum, not a home.
I love the colour scheme, which is so soft. I love the gallery wall area, and the layers of pillows. I love how the dark pink/orange pillows contrast against the lavender and like blue colours. The pink/orange throw continues with this play on contrasting colours. The cool versus warm. This room feel calm and tranquil. Lots of texture: velvet shams, the patterned quilt, the velvety throw, the velvet? kimono thing over the bed, the mirrored? or rice papered screen, the pictures and orchid, and reading scones.
Sumptuous colours, romantic, love the colour scheme, love the lace above the bed, and it is simple and uncluttered. Nice and subtle use of textures and prints (lace, gorgeous fabric/print of bedspread, fabric/print of curtain, wood chest, soft green throw, and pillow cases of white and light blue. Definitely a cool colour palette.
Eclectic, artsy, European, with a nod to the past. I love paintings. The designer did a great job with scale. The painting above the sofa is the perfect size for the room. Nice use of a round table against the very angular mid century style sofa. The lamp shade and the shape of the lamp add visual interest. Very nice use of textures and colour: velvet, pink woven rug, wood table, all the various shapes and colors/prints of the pillows, the sherpa throw on the sofa, the striped zig zig curtains, the plant and plant container, the teal/blue walls. The coffee table may be a midcentury piece as well, as it is simple and straightforward.
