Windows
Thanks to the creation of this extra space, Galan had enough room to create a new triple-height courtyard through the building. Landscaped with Mediterranean plants and stepping stones, it gives the homes a tranquil centre. In contrast with the heavier elements of the existing architecture, Galan chose industrial-style steel-framed glazing to front this courtyard, creating a contemporary detail that is visible throughout the building.
1. In the frame What’s especially interesting in this home office are the glazed doors separating the work space from the rest of the home. Interior glazing is often seen in European homes yet it also works beautifully. The glazed divide respects the separation between business and pleasure in the home while maintaining a visual connection between the spaces.
3. They can open out a corner It’s true that bi-folds aren’t the only way to pull off this trick, but, as this indoor-outdoor room shows, they’re an effective way to fully open two whole sides of a room. The track for the doors is flush to the floor here too, meaning inside and out are one when the bi-folds are open. It’s worth bearing in mind that if bi-folds are in an exposed position, a completely flat threshold may not be weatherproof, but the upstand you’d then require need only be small to do its job.

And the cathedral ceiling? By replacing the 2.7-metre ceiling with a 4.2 cathedral ceiling we have created the most incredible sense of space, despite the exiting perimeter of the room not changing. For a fairly simple change it has transformed the room. You wouldn’t recognise it.
Bench seat curving round is great - windows also interesting - but do they have a sense of blocking the view
The 4.5-metre-high steel-framed windows flood the kitchen and living areas with natural light, improving the sense of space and volume within the building. The doors and windows can be opened to access the courtyard, allowing our client to host events and enjoy the sun throughout the day. A strong connection to external views and the outdoor courtyard allows the building to occupy the external space, increasing the overall living area.
to capture the sunsets?
Think i would prefer the solid window in one spot and the ventilation windows to the side - disconnected. They are too powerful and distract from the view.
Windows are triple-glazed with an external pane of six-millimetre toughed glass. This meets Passive House standards and exceeds BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) 29 requirements.
Composite window frames are aluminium-clad timber, which is timber on the interior frame and aluminium on the exterior. “Once again, this is for maintenance-free design,” says Lee. A black-framed, full-height glazed wall and door keep this home office light and sociable, while allowing for it to be private and quiet when necessary, too. Perla windows
2. Add texture Fluted or reeded glass, with its delightful, ripple-effect surface, is a genius choice for internal doors. Not only does it add a touch of old-world charm to a space, but it allows you to close off a room without sacrificing light
Dont quite understand the windows - but the affect is great. Scarpa-inspired geometry and detailing is evident in the steel black frames around the windows, and large skirting boards are repeated inside and feature a brass trim along the upper edge.
Like the windows on the right - little panes with larger ones in a narrow strip.
And in this photo the doors in open position, but would it be better to fold them all to the side and at what cost?
black multi-paned window
Nice proportions
flush finished doors
Window seat corner - in deep rust - but with matching panels to existing window r.t. squares
Nice frame - could do this where seat can slide out also - so that you can sit in a doorway?
again - nice framing
great way to have a side window - stair access and privacy from the side
