Why it Works
With cool greys dominating our homes for a while now, there’s been a move towards warmer neutrals that are richer in colour and personality, and offer a fresh contemporary look. “It’s particularly the golden caramel tones that seem to be snapping at the heels of these chilly shades,” says Shillingford. “They make us feel cosy and relaxed.” And this is certainly true of Spiced Honey, with its intense buttery tone that feels utterly comforting and fulfilling. Yum!

This comforting tone will instantly evoke an inviting setting, perfect for a welcoming living space full of cosy seating and tactile textures. Curl up and relax in a space that’s warm and cocooning, yet full of freshness at the same time.
Behind the Trend
Each year, Dulux gathers a team of experts from around the world to conduct a huge research project into global trends, insights and consumer behaviours. The team seeks to transform a trend into a colour that responds to these needs and enables us to bring a mood into our homes.
Spiced Honey was chosen as the perfect colour to capture a new sense of optimism and energy that appears to be emerging after a year of uncertainty, which saw us retreating and surrounding ourselves with dark cocooning colours.
With the mood finally lifting, people are feeling re-energised, ready to deal with the sense of unpredictability with positive action, optimism and purpose.
Heleen van Gent, Head of the Global Aesthetic Centre, explains this shift in mood as a “re-awakening” and that we are “ready to open our windows and let the light in.” Spiced Honey responds to these positive vibes thanks to its rich and stimulating buzz, that can also be comforting and nurturing depending on the setting and light surrounding it.
An adaptable shade for every lifestyle. This refreshing, contemporary hue is also extremely versatile and timeless, lending itself to a broad spectrum of life and interior styles. So, whether you’re a fan of sleek, minimal spaces or love classic, period schemes, this colour will adapt easily.

What to Pair it With
If you’re looking for an interesting and complex neutral, then Spiced Honey is the one for you. Having a raw quality that mimics nature and changes in different light conditions, it becomes extremely adaptable when pairing it with different materials, colours and styles.
For example, its rich tone visually heats up a space, making it an ideal accompaniment to cooler greys or blues, while it becomes a softer, more muted tone when paired with a powder pink. Or you can watch its playful side come alive and fill a space with energy when sat alongside a rich burgundy or deep teal.
Experiment with patterns and wood tones. Spiced Honey takes on a heritage feel when paired with mid-century brown-toned woods like oak and teak. However, it also marries perfectly with pale timbers, stone and leather for a modern Nordic feel that’s clean and simplistic. And, for something completely different, Shillingford thinks you should “add proper chunks of my all-time favourite warm grey – Angora Blanket, and accents of the deepest, almost black Cobalt Night, for a twist that gives it modernity and bite.”

How to Use It
The beauty of Spiced Honey is its ability to harmonise a space, bringing the whole look together. “This hue works really well as a supporting colour rather than a wrap-around fully immersive one,” says Shillingford. She suggests trying it out as a feature on a wall, like a band or stripe around a window to frame a view. Alternatively, painting interior woodwork and cabinetry in the colour will highlight architectural features and give them a luxurious touch.

Play with wall pattern. This is the colour to use if you’re thinking about stencilling patterns on your walls, but stick to graphic shapes-of-the-moment, like octagons and circles, to keep it feeling funky.

"re-awakening"? "Opening our windows to let the light in"? What a pile of drivel. So it's "intense buttery tone that feels utterly comforting and fulfilling" will "make us feel cosy and relaxed" will it? I really am lost for words .... [which is why I keep using quotes from the article ;) ....]
No thank you.
Really dislike 'spiced honey' won't be using it in my home.
