Tour a Modern Farmhouse Kitchen and Living Room
In this episode of Houzz TV Live, Monica and Richard Ryder of Clearcut Construction take viewers through their open-plan kitchen and living area in Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA. The couple took down a wall to connect the two spaces, then set out to add design details in a mix of three styles they both like: midcentury modern, Scandinavian and farmhouse.
In the kitchen, a large island gives the couple and their sons plenty of seating. Swivel stools allow the family members to turn and watch TV in the living area or interact with guests. To cut down on the budget, the couple repurposed cabinets from another room in the house, refaced them and painted them white (Baby’s Breath by Benjamin Moore). Open wood shelves and a blue-painted larder cabinet with rattan-wrapped handles add stylish elements.
In the living area, two brown leather sofas give the couple the nod to midcentury style they wanted. Panelling on the TV wall adds texture and dimension, while a renovated fireplace features a waterfall-edge mantel and a herringbone mosaic tile surround.
What a beautiful take on the look. Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful! I enjoyed your YouTube interview on HouzzTV. Can you tell me where you found that leather couch?
Beautiful- exactly my style as well. Where are the great barstools from?
Thanks so much! We found the couches at West Elm and love them!!
Beautiful! You guys know what you are doing! I would hire you in a minute.
Fantastic reno! Love everything about it..the mix of scandi, mid-century, and farmhouse. Very thoughtful and liveable! Kudos!
Thanks for sharing! Looks great! I am working with a couple now on their home here in the High Country of NC. They need bar stools, and want something that swivels. I have been trying to find them stools which blend the mountain look they want and updated style I’m trying to add... Thanks in advance for sharing!
where did you get the bar stools?
Wow! What a well-thought-out transformation!
very nice space! what is the vent above stove made from? is it covered with drywall? or other material?
Beautifull
BARSTOOLS: Thanks everyone for the questions! After MANY hours of searching who'd have known I'd find these barstools at Target?! Great price too ;-)
VENT HOOD: This is a custom vent hood made of wood and painted to match our cabinets (Benjamin Moore Baby's Breath).
Beautiful! Enjoyed your tour & interview video. It looks like your wood floor goes right up to the fireplace box? I guess it's permitted where you are to have combustible material abut the fireplace? (In California a separation is required.)
The blue on the cabinets is so very dreamy.
Apart from the fact that this is a beautiful space, I love how the interview reveals all the carefully thought out decisions that have gone into getting to this point. The process is often an under-appreciated aspect for clients. It reveals the importance of having a compass that guides all the decisions and makes the decision making easier, not harder.
Clearcut Construction, you have done yourselves proud with this great space and interview. If this doesn't get you an avalanche of business, nothing will. Kudos!
Quite an amazing transformation from what the house looked like before! I love how everything in the one room compliments the other. The paneled wall along the fireplace and the cozy nook to the side of the kitchen are my faves.
Beautiful! Where did you get the pendant lights over the island?
You had me at “trim”! The millwork in this space is gorgeous. The flow, windows, lighting, decor all fit so seamlessly. I love it. I want to move in.
VENT HOOD
Yes it is a custom wood unit painted.
PENDANT LIGHTS: The pendant lights are from Rejuvenation; one of our favs!
It’s lovely the pendant lights look amazing and the marble it’s so beautiful
What is the countertop on the island made of?
I love everything about this kitchen!
