I do have a large shaggy, natural coloured rug but given the size of the room, but its just out of sight.

Comments (35)not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!...See Moreto allow my twin visualise a new home...can you help
Comments (4)Hello Annken, What about buying a very long Bungalow style home 1930's style.. If you treat it like two wings of a stately home.. With one side each for both of you that meets in the middle for kitchen/dining etc.. Or would you both want completely separate living quarters?.. If the height wasn't too low you may be able to create some split level rooms with ramp style stairs.. Or if it's not a bungalow if it was big enough you could have split level flooring with low spiral stairs.. Think Guggenheim or the Berthold Lubetkin beautifully designed Penguin house at the zoo that also had "slides" for the penguins to enter the pool in style.. These two both have a similar "feel" aesthetically to them and very beautiful... They are both favourites of mine... but it seems to me to be a way of adapting the home to the use of your wheelchairs in a nice stylish and modern way.. 4 years agoHi Ellie, we were looking in to wall-hung or indented fireplaces, but with having a 11 month old wandering around we decided against it for safety reasons, so if anything was to go there it would have to be child-friendly. Was looking at lamps (same on both sides) was just worried that it would look cluttered with the pictures up top? Was thinking something along these lines.. ?

4 years agoI would paint the chimney breast something very dark such as Railings or similar to hide the TV. Then throw in some saturated lamps to detract away from that area. West Elm do some really nice ones which when lit glow a beautiful turquoise colour.

4 years agoDo you have any colour in the room? If not, what colours do you like? I like colourhappys idea to paint the chimney breast and have just used the turquoise idea. I personally wouldn't match the lamps as you've got matching units and art. I can't photoshop but you could pop the greyhound on a couple of books. You could just open up the chimney breast and fill with logs or glue slices of them onto a black painted board? It would work well with the rustic look? The art may also sit better, depending on accessory choices, about 4 inches lower

4 years agoLove Minnie's logs, i'd put in a fire, but definitely a rug to break up the flooring. The rug helps to make the cabinets stand out more as they do blend in to their surroundings a little.

4 years agoI would add 2 3d wall panels like this ones from logi engineering, it will look good and a coloured rug as well! you need a bit of colour in that room

4 years agoYou can go neutral if you prefer but I'd bring in more pattern and texture. Not sure if you like either the lamp or vase and could build on that? I added a plant but would probably have a large one where Carolina put the floor lamp. You could add a belly basket with throws etc there instead.
I would move the coffee table back, c 50cm in front of the sofa opposite the fire, as I think it will work both visually and practically. Accessories may be tricky for now but maybe just a plant (maybe even faux if your baby likes to eat everything) in a jute bag. I'd add books on the shelf below.

Funnily enough I had put in a large plant where the floor lamp is at first, but then put in chairs and I thought you could use some additional lighting. Anyway, here's one with a large plant and I've put in a petrified wood sculpture as an accessories example. Found it at LaRedoute.
But just see what catches your eye when you're out shopping. And what's practical with regards to tiny hands perhaps :-)
I agree with pulling the coffee table towards the sofa(s). And it doesn't look so good being on the edge of the rug.

4 years agoI like everything to be fair except for the rug. I think if anything it's the floor area that needs breaking up. So i'd go for the rug and possibly the Chimney stack.

4 years agoI had forgotten you'd posted before, is the tadelakt/polished plaster out for the chimney breast? (I'm finally having it done in July, yay!)
i don't know if you'd had further thoughts re colour. I've put together some bits for each sideboard (although they wouldn't be in a straight line). Accessories are so hard as they're what really add personality so very personal and they take time to build. Some of the bits aren't quite right, the velvet shade (and books) need to be wider, I wouldn't go for gold faux antlers either. The little star led lights would go in the cloche. I don't know if these are a bit quirky, the candle seemed appropriate and the "silence is golden" bust with a new baby :)
