Comments (2)Skimming stone is a lighter version of Elephants Breath and Dove Tale is a darker version, so if you want a tonal scheme you could go for a combination of those three colours. Strong White and Charleston Gray also work well with Elephants Breath. Comments (4)Hi minnie101, Thanks so much for your detailed reply. Great to know what colour that grey is. It may be a little dark with our floor. We will definitely update the handles - I hate the current ones. We'll probably go with wood to keep within budget. Your non-tiles pic is lovely. We'll probably keep some tiles and try to keep the kitchen a little more modern than country kitchen, which might be a challenge with wood. The room faces south. I like your idea of dividing it with paint. We probably will go with white in the kitchen and then 1/2 slightly darker tones in the tv-couch area. The 'other' entrance into the dining area is narrowed by a non-structural wall, so we should remove this to open it properly or like you say, close it off. Maybe not close it off entirely as we'd lose a lot of light, but maybe put in a counter or breakfast bar if space allowed. I love your pendant light suggestions over the dining table. Details like this and a rug in the couch area will really help divide the room as at the moment it is one big cavernous space. I really can't decide yet what way the couches should face - into a tv in the corner, or out into the room like you suggest. We'll have to draw out some chalk outlines on the floor and see how much space there actually is. Colour-wise we like the idea of keeping walls and cabinets quite stark, the wood counter will add a bit of warmth, and then adding colour with couches, rugs and possibly dining chairs. Comments (5)I have a similar laminate floor to yours with white walls and it looks ok, the key really is to try and warm the look up a bit with colors in accessories etc. (before and after). A plywood with a wood finished floor might look a bit extreme though, perhaps you could look at staining the ply a darker shade such as a blue? Comments (73)I think it looks great so far. Many of the ads for claw foot tubs, and magazines, show them with encaustic/cement tile and plain white surround. Also, you did something creative and attractive with the tile layout. I love the nickel shine of your clawfoot legs too. If you can maybe get a corner shelf on one side of the wall, you'll have a place for soap, candle or bubble bath. And maybe hotel towel holder on another wall to get the height up. 8 years agoI love marmoleum. There are so many wonderful colors. It seems a missed opportunity to go with a neutral. The color would depend on what you like, and how much natural light is present. There are also myriad 2 and 3 color patterns for lino tile setting. I've seen templates on line, and I think Marmoleum has some as well.
I like carrying the same flooring throughout the entire floor. It really unifies the rooms. It's great you chose a material that will work anywhere!

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoBottom right - a neutral grayed green/greige tone. Classic, looks great with the birch, and you could still introduce gray into the mix thru countertops or wall color. The posted options look clownish and would be hard for resale IMO. Add stainless steel, and industrial style light fixtures for the edgy look you want to achieve, but the underlying design will be a neutral base.

8 years agoI just did my kitchen in birch with Deep Ocean Marmoleum flooring. I love it but the dark floor does show every bit of dust and fluff (2 cats). I've put in a pic of my kitchen as it was being done since I don't have a good shot of the floor in the finished version. Sorry about the construction dust!
