I have a small flat screen TV in my living room but have no idea how to display it in a tasetful way. I don't want to make the TV a centre piece of the room and I am not into cabinets much and I don't like TVs hung on a wall so that limits me a bit. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I just finished posting this answer to another similar question about TVs. This product from Design Within Reach isn't a bookcase, it's flat, streamlined, and can be painted or papered to match the wall. Your tv will be mounted on this thing without nailing into your wall. All wires hidden. I don't have it but it looks really cool.

That wall paper doesn't go at all.. and you don't need wallpapers.. how about a cream shade on the fireplace part of wall with oxblood coloured (from your curtain flowers) horizontal band below mantel, while the rest of the walls be lilac? Ever considered stoenwork similar to your fireplace on that wall? Also lower the hung photographs.. should be at least four inches below the windows' top edge.. Your sofas are quite dark. they seem aubergine.. is there any way you can at least place one of the sofas across from a window so that light falls on it? right now it is in the shadows backed against the windows, therefore more dark (does it seem so when you're in the room too?) The mirror (though nice) is too solid and thick for the mantel. can it go on a clearer stretch of some wall? fourth wall? What is the fourth wall like? idk how the fourth wall is like but how about angling large sofa at 90 degrees to the window with the single seater also angled in the corner where the lamp is.. and place the side table with lamp infront of the window (i-e at the corner of the 'L' made by t he sofas).. If possible get lighter lamp shades (cream).. Love the cushions.. place two of these cushions on the single seater to relieve the large sofa.. Please turn the rug lengthwise along the length of the sofa.. get a glass/metal table (if tots allow) or cream ottomon as center table.. The TV is too large for the rack, no? The vase is being wasted under the tv.. Florals and stripes can be mixed depending on print.. but if you bring anymore florals in this room, it would be best to match the flower shape to those in the curtains. I find the curtains too short...

What about blinds which raise up from the base of the window, partially or totally raise as suits? There are some gorgeous lace panels around (NOT talking nets here!) - try Anthology perhaps, or even La Redoute who have some 'v' bottomed ones amongst others? Bee

If you put it on the wall surround it with pictures and then slip cover the flat screen TV with wall paper or fabric. It might make it look like a piece of art with the other pictures you have surrounded it with.

I found some info on putting a tv behind a two way mirror you can make by using mirror film on glass. The TV will only show up when it is on.

A more involved solution is to put the screen inside furniture like a buffet, where an opening has been cut for it to be raised and lowered. THe screen completely disappears from sight until wanted. I've seen this done; the hardware -- and probably the furniture! -- is out there.

Furniture is available to hide a TV. A lift system raises and lowers it from the back third of the cabinet. I recently saw such a cabinet at Costco and it wasn't overly expensive.

I still love cabinets or repurposed furniture, armoire, etc. that match the space to keep the tv out of sight and not the center focus; but if you don't like cabinets, how about a bookcase with a shelf large enough for the tv; with other items, books, etc. on the shelves, the tv is not the focal point. Or, hang the tv on the wall and hang a large piece of framed art over it and remove for tv watching. Instead of a wall safe, it's a tv . . . .

Restoration Hardware has a great looking Easel TV stand on rollers. Can be pushed out of the way when not in use.

A large wooden artist's easel makes an interesting and practical way to display a tv. It is also easily moved so it can be off to the side when not being used.

Put a nice box shelf around it, or a simple floating shelf (strong of course.)
