Help Study Ideas and Inspiration

Hi as part of our renovations we have made room for a small study office off our Utility room. It will be used by our 11 year old daughter for homework and by wife when she works from home. Its only small so we are only after a desk, chair but also some shelving for all our paperwork and some books. The room will be carpeted and the tall radiator in the picture will be replaced by a small 600x600 radiator. The window is staying as is and blinds will be replaced. The room measures 2.5m wide by 2.1m long and the door opens out into the the adjoining Utility.

We have been trawling through Houzz for some inspiration but wanted to post here as well for any ideas where to position things. Any input, thoughts or ideas gladly appreciated.

Might offer up some ideas ... a trip to Ikea might be good for some interesting desk and storage solutions for various budgets too !

Hi Martin, I would suggest you could have a Bay window space and a desk with shelving on the left wall. I would suggest to place a large mirror on the right wall in order to create a sense of more space. I would also add a rug and paint the walls in a light shade.

It's not so much the bookcase as other problems I see in the room. Here are four things that could change your room at a relatively low cost: 1. Track lighting in the ceiling. Your lighting looks very minimal and no matter how gorgeous you make the room, if you don't light it properly, it won't look it's best. 2. Choose a bright, happy paint color for one of the walls, probably a wall you see from the doorway. It might be turquoise or coral or lime green. 3. It's doing its job just fine, but if you could turn some of the book into horizontal stacks, it could create a little more interest. If you do end up adding to your bookcase, it's nice to be able to display some objects, mixed in with the books.

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.

Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. Do make sure the colour blends with the lounge though as you can obviously see through.

Hi ! I think this house will benefit from from plenty of toy storage in the main family living space ( assuming this will be in the extension at rear ) as while little ones are so small they need to be in view - so perhaps you could design with this in mind and add a dedicated laundry room near the WC perhaps ? The current play room could maybe be used as a different function ? Do you need a guest room /study perhaps ? For when family members come to stay ? If so maybe the wc could be upgraded to a shower room ? There's lots of things you can do to make this work for you - just write a list of what could make your life easier now and for the next 5-10 years or so ... Some things will evolve or be ready to change by then - so being clever with your designing and planning now should put you in a good place further down the line too !! If this is something you need help with - hiring in a pro might be a good way of dealing with it - or alternatively put your wish list on here and see if you can get some fab ideas from the helpful Houzzers !!!

Hi. Are the measurements correct? The window wall looks shorter than the side walls? Is that also a boiler on the right hand wall? If so, are you looking to box that in and maybe incorporate in the design! What styles do you like?
