Help decide on paint colour
I am painting my loft wall and found a colour I love, but I want to paint the short side walls a complimentary colour. Any suggestions?
The paint store professional suggested the blues and dark grey but I don't like how the blues turned out and prefer more muted colours. I ended up picking a cool grey and love how it looks. What would you do for the side walls?
This is for a loft bedroom and the feeling should be 'cosy on a rainy day'.

Comments (9)Thank you for your suggestions and ideas! I love some of the more daring/colourful ideas, but I don't think I'm, personally, bold enough to go with such a contemporary look. I'm going to stick to a traditional/modern style and use large (4" x 8") white subway tiles and dark grey grout. I'm thinking of using a dark grey paint around the kitchen walls and then a lighter shade around the rest of the room, with maybe the dark grey on the wall behind the TV too. Comments (8)I would go for a stone colour so not too dissimilar to what you've got. Little Greene does a good stone colour too but will work out a bit expensive. This is Oxford stone by farrow and ball. Appreciate it! unfortunately, while lovely, glass panels are going to be too expensive as is upgrading the doors/walls upstairs (realistically we would have to take down all the upstairs walls and start again to make any difference). But thanks. Obviously if we do enclose it will use a glazed door at the base (the rules about the size of landing you need don't seem to be too strict here in Ireland - must have 40 cm from the base step completely free) so we are thinking door at the base of the stairs opening towards the front door. My sister in law however suggests using the entire width between the front door and the stairs as storage, fairly similar to now, but with a door opening out into the kitchen. still thinking. thanks again for your input anyway....See MorePaint colours for new house....help needed!
Comments (0)Hi all, Need to decide on colours for our new house quickly (4 bed semi in a new development) and as I am a complete novice looking for some sound advice please. I was hoping to get into some paint shops and get some advice and samples but avoiding as much as possible due to Covid 19. So apologies in advance for all the questions! Painting will be done by the builder and the only instructions are that we "can pick up to 4 neutral colours from the Dulux range which will be mixed in standard matt". He has suggested that Shale White, Savon Grey, Warm Stove or Tempting Taupe are popular colours so far. House has an east/west orientation with the front of the house facing (sitting room) east and the back of the house (kitchen) facing west. I have done some initial research on best colours for west facing kitchen and it seems to suggest that white is a good option maybe with pink undertones? We are going for a Kashmir kitchen with a grey island and white counter tops as shown in the picture below. We are going for laminate flooring in the hall, sitting and kitchen and I like the one on the left below. What paint colour would work best in the kitchen with our flooring and kitchen colours? For the sitting room as it is east facing with the laminate floor above has anybody got some good tips on what might work well? Neutral with shades of green or blue? For the downstairs bathroom I have read that white is a good option for darker (no window) bathrooms. We will be getting the tile below in the corner on the floor and the wall tile behind the toilet and sink covering half of the wall. The two bathrooms upstairs will be tiled. For the hall downstairs and the landing upstairs presume you would go with one colour throughout? Again is a white colour a good option or would grey work equally well? Finally for the bedrooms would you recommend to go all the same neutral colour initially (as we are limited to 4 paint choices throughout the house) and then we can paint individual rooms afterwards when the 3 kids start demanding their own colours. 4 years agoIm not that keen on the dark Grey, sorry. Just seems a bit depressing? That can work in some rooms, but it doesn’t tie in with the wooden ceiling. I really like the paler grey in the second picture, and even the blue, which is very fresh. Think they would go nicely with the wooden ceiling and floor. Not sure what paint you are using, but I find Farrow & Ball shades are so soft and cosy, even the dark shades. As you like the grey, then you could paint the sides in an off white like Dulux White Cotton, White Mist or Rock Salt? Here a couple of inspirational pics:
