Fireplace remodel "Help"

We just bought an older home that has two large stone fireplaces. The one on the main level is causing the subfloor to sag and it is pulling away from the wall. Therefore sooner then later as we had planned we will have to take down this huge fireplace. I would love a mantel and nice clean area, but with the hearth so tall need help with some ideas and maybe pics. Something like the last picture.
We are still unpacking so please excuse the stuff.

Once the stone is gone and the associated problems, get a new firebox that goes with the style of house that you are creating. You have a picture of a very traditional fireplace. Is your home now or going to be traditional? If so, copy your image. If you are more transitional, then don't have a higher hearth. Put the firebox at floor level and put tile in front of it. Then, put a simple mantel on the wall. If you want more pizzaz, add tile around the firebox... all kinds to choose from, including glass tile.

I really like the second one, but if you really like the wood panels then suit up for creativity - you can easily have the best of both worlds. Clear your wall at home and put the wooden panels there, you can then install the mantel on the panels just like in the second picture. Hope I helped :) Best wishes xoxo

If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. Hi Zoe , I had to take a second look to make sure this wasn't my photo! I have the same fireplace frame and our mirrors are similar! You have great taste ;) I can't offer any advise I'm afraid, but I'll be watching closely to see if something can be done. I wondered if it was possible to sand it down and paint it white or cream maybe, but the silver pieces may pose a problem. I'm tired of mine too. Here's hoping for some inspiration....
