Curtains, Cushions and rug dilemma !!

hello everyone, its been 6 months I have shifted to my new house ..I have been slowly setting up my living room...so far the furniture and wallpaper are done ...but I m stuck on what curtains , Cushions and rug I should go with to accessorise the room ...I did order a few curtains with colours like navy and teal but when put up they were all looking too much...I want something which should be light and have a glam factor too them ..but hardly I m able to decide/ get anything...

I thought if I know what curtains I m going fof then it would help me choose the other bits like Cushions and my Rug.

I have attached a few pics to give you a quick idea of the room and the furniture...if you guys please can suggest or advise something that you think will be suitable will really help me ..

What a lovely room. I’m a great fan of curtains that are a similar shade to the walls. I agree dark or colourful curtains can be difficult to place. I was thinking a simple faux silk curtain in a soft gold. I would also go soft gold with the rug, either a patterned Persian style or something more modern. Then cushions to pick up the gold and the tan in your sofas, maybe geometric style to tie in with the wallpaper. Or you could try blue or dark grey cushions to give it more drama? I’m not keen on the vertical blinds - horizontal blinds, say in a white painted wood, would look better.

hi there yes gold seems to be a good idea...do you think if I combine it with a shimmery voil curtain in between that would look nice ...

That wall paper doesn't go at all.. and you don't need wallpapers.. how about a cream shade on the fireplace part of wall with oxblood coloured (from your curtain flowers) horizontal band below mantel, while the rest of the walls be lilac? Ever considered stoenwork similar to your fireplace on that wall? Also lower the hung photographs.. should be at least four inches below the windows' top edge.. Your sofas are quite dark. they seem aubergine.. is there any way you can at least place one of the sofas across from a window so that light falls on it? right now it is in the shadows backed against the windows, therefore more dark (does it seem so when you're in the room too?) The mirror (though nice) is too solid and thick for the mantel. can it go on a clearer stretch of some wall? fourth wall? What is the fourth wall like? idk how the fourth wall is like but how about angling large sofa at 90 degrees to the window with the single seater also angled in the corner where the lamp is.. and place the side table with lamp infront of the window (i-e at the corner of the 'L' made by t he sofas).. If possible get lighter lamp shades (cream).. Love the cushions.. place two of these cushions on the single seater to relieve the large sofa.. Please turn the rug lengthwise along the length of the sofa.. get a glass/metal table (if tots allow) or cream ottomon as center table.. The TV is too large for the rack, no? The vase is being wasted under the tv.. Florals and stripes can be mixed depending on print.. but if you bring anymore florals in this room, it would be best to match the flower shape to those in the curtains. I find the curtains too short...

Try finding a curtain in green and purple. They are opposite on the color wheel and look fabulous together. I think it will add the vibrancy you seek. Go to Houzz photos and type in keywords purple and green curtains to see what I mean.

Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

I think a silver curtain would look lovely and pick out the statement grey/silver seating. Now cushions are a whole different thing as you can make your own for pennies or go mad and spend a fortune. I tend to mine for £2 in plain silk off internet and then bead them. You can stick to the gold/silver and white of the room or try something a little brighter. I think a long pile rug in a cream will add depth and texture to the room. It will also make it feel cosy in winter. Whatever you do have fun xx
