Need ideas for how to furnish this room

Originally two rooms, living and kitchen, dividing wall has now been removed, so it's one open area. Between chair and couch is door coming in from hallway, couch faces fireplace. So far I've only purchased these two pieces, and need advise on how to proceed with design.

build a mantel.make it look like a real hearth. is there a tv? where will it be?

Thank you for your comment, The fireplace looks so bare, originally there was a huge surround and I couldn't believe the size of the actual grate when it was all removed. I had wondered if I should have had the piece of granite hearth extended to the wall and built a narrow bookcase by the chair. I will definitely get a mantel. No tv yet, don't know where to put it,? There is a tv point in the corner to the left hand side of the couch, just under the window. Thanks again,

Hi Richie, Have a look at this: http://www.avforums.com/threads/mixed-members-home-cinema-gallery-section-pictures-only.1051141/page-5 - 12 pages of different set-ups, most of them in rather small rooms. You could choose one room that you like most (or bits from different ones) and try to replicate it. There's also a DIY section - some guys tell you what they did step-by-step. (ex: http://www.avforums.com/threads/floating-wall-with-floating-sliding-media-unit.1820614/). And obviously, look through Houzz photos too. Good luck!!

Hi. I'm not sure what styles you like? Perhaps a scandi feel? Extend the grey paint to ceiling, back of shelves and skirting boards. Paint the shelves an off white and remove half of the books and mix with some art and accessories.. Paint the bed and cabinets in a pale grey and move to the right ŵall. Add white and charcoal bedding. Maybe an updated anglepoise in black or dark grey ( not too tall!) for the bedsides. Add a dark grey/ black scandi chair with sheepskin throw. You could also age the floor in off whites and pale greys, if not add a rug. Finally a mirror opposite the shelves to make the room feel bigger.

Sorry, yes, I didn't explain very well, did I... I meant that as your room seems to be quite light, floor included, a dark grey that matches the bird on your wallpaper would give you that wow factor (pic1 below). You could then work on the layering textures within the same colour palette too with the rest of your accessories (rugs, mirrors etc). Or if you're not too keen on greys, pick out one of the other colours if you prefer- you have a good selection of pink, blue, green or yellow. As long as you match the exact shade you can't go wrong, in my humble opinion. I've attached a few pics below to show you what I mean xx

Hi ! I think this house will benefit from from plenty of toy storage in the main family living space ( assuming this will be in the extension at rear ) as while little ones are so small they need to be in view - so perhaps you could design with this in mind and add a dedicated laundry room near the WC perhaps ? The current play room could maybe be used as a different function ? Do you need a guest room /study perhaps ? For when family members come to stay ? If so maybe the wc could be upgraded to a shower room ? There's lots of things you can do to make this work for you - just write a list of what could make your life easier now and for the next 5-10 years or so ... Some things will evolve or be ready to change by then - so being clever with your designing and planning now should put you in a good place further down the line too !! If this is something you need help with - hiring in a pro might be a good way of dealing with it - or alternatively put your wish list on here and see if you can get some fab ideas from the helpful Houzzers !!!

I like the pieces that you have purchased. I can see that floating the furniture in the centre of the space is not feasible so make the best of the room.
Dress up the sofa area with curtains and a coffee table and matching pillows. A suggested look:
