I want to put wooden floors down in my sitting room which opens up to my kitchen . It therefore will have heavy traffic. I would like to lightly paint them so you can see the wood grain etc so have a rustic look .Question what wood should I chose? And is it a good idea to paint a floor that will have heavy traffic?
I would choose a wide plank, hand hewn product. Many manufacturers out there to choose from. It will hold up much better and should achieve your design your looking for.
