Design Dilemma Kitchens

kitchen island replacement

how much do you think it will cost to replace this island and what type of work goes into it? it houses the sink, we still want the sink there so I dont expect any additional plumbing work? But dismantling the island might be tricky if the sink is there. We just want to replace the island because we don't like how it looks. For more context, we live in london

The most frugal option is knocking down the potruding half wall above the counter and add new counter top based on your preffered material, expand the island side frame, last change the texture cladding/vynil

Idk about the other side of the current island, but if you don't have storage there yet or planning to insert dishwasher on the island then make room for it

I don't suggest to put storage on the side where the photo has taken since it perfect for stools and legroom

I think it more budget friendly than demolished everything and buy whole new island

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island? The colour would depend on lots of variants. Such as what’s on the floor? how much light is there? Do you have a splash back what’s the counter top? That said would you consider painting the island a feature colour? Such as ink blue or emerald green? It would make your island a feature. Good luck

Laminate worktop + modifications + vinyl/cladding: £800–£1,500

Wood worktop: £1,100–£2,400

Quartz: £1,700–£3,500+

It all depend on the material and cladding you choose the improvement can be as expensive as basic new island if you prefer high end finished
