Knowing what your plan for the garden is as well as what you will use the adjoining room for are also key pieces of info to consider. I would look at all of these factors as well as many more to arrive at a layout that will truly work well for you and your family.

Hi Salwa, looking at both layouts provided by Jonathan and Sarah, I would first decide how you want the kitchen to work before fixing the skylight and furniture positions.

From a manufacturing point of view, I would try to keep the main kitchen run as coherent as possible and avoid breaking the cabinetry into too many separate sections. Tall units for the fridge, ovens and pantry storage usually work best grouped together, leaving the remaining runs for preparation, washing and cooking.

If you are considering an island, I would also check the clearances very carefully. An island can add useful storage and preparation space, but only if there is still comfortable circulation around it and it does not interrupt the route between the kitchen, dining area and garden.

The change in width between the existing kitchen and the extension is also important. Rather than trying to fill every available wall with cabinets, I would use that transition deliberately and keep the dining side feeling more open.

I would also finalise the kitchen layout before committing to the exact skylight position. The natural light should support the working areas and dining space, rather than ending up centred over an area that changes once the cabinetry is properly planned.

Between the two ideas shown, I would develop the option that gives you the longest uninterrupted working run, keeps the tall storage together and leaves the clearest route through to the extension. That will usually give you a kitchen that feels calmer and works better day to day.

Just figuring where should we place the skylight light the only room it’s possible is where it shows in the picture because the other ceiling is bit inclined ceiling

I have a concern that if I place right in the middle of the extended room ( currently shown in picture) my neighbour get to view our indoor space which can result in loosing privacy, so I was thinking if we can move the skylight nearer to the inside wall rather than centralising in that room, but again its just the thought
