Hi.
We are having a refurbishment of our kitchen, due to some of the changes we will require building control sign off.
**Advice needed: concealed kitchen door into utility room – Building Regulations concerns (England)**
We are renovating our kitchen and would like to create a concealed door into a utility room, designed to look like part of the kitchen cabinetry.The idea is for it to be a full-height cabinet-style opening made up of **two 500mm-wide larder doors**, matching the surrounding kitchen units, so it looks like a normal run of cabinetry.
The utility room contains:
* WC
* wash basin
* washing machine
* tumble dryer
Our architect is concerned that this type of “Narnia door” may not satisfy UK Building Regulations. We understand the room will need the correct ventilation/extraction, privacy etc., but we are trying to understand whether there is likely to be an issue.Has anyone installed a concealed kitchen door into a utility room/WC, or had one approved by Building Control?
Would this be better approached as a proper internal door with cabinet fronts attached, rather than using kitchen cupboard doors and hinges?Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
