In the process of buying this property. The living room needs a but of an overhaul but on a minimal budget. I want to know what we can do ourselves for now to make it feel more open and airy.
We have taupe couches and would love to go for a natural look with blues, beiges, and light wood.
The green carpet is in perfect condition, but apparently, there are wood floors underneath. Is it worth taking up the carpet, and hopefully, finding flooring there in good condition? The wooden beams all over the place is making the room look way to enclosed and heavy so I'm thinking of taking down the beams along the walls and maybe just having a couple of the ceiling beams up for character? Maybe painting them the same colour as the ceiling or staining the wood to make it much lighter? I think matching the floor to the beams would make sense?
Also what to do about that fireplace? Anything we can do to make it blend in more? Or maybe leave it as a feature...what are the possibilities without spending too much? We could do some basic work ourselves, like painting and maybe removing beams, but neither my husband or I have much experience with renovating.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
