Hello!

I'm currently finalising our kitchen design and am trying to visualise what a mantle over a plaster-boxed extractor would look like.

We have a 1220mm-wide section of wall that projects slightly from a 5255mm wall and sits almost centrally within the room. This is where our two built-under ovens will be located, with the hob positioned directly above.

Rather than adding two wall cabinets and concealing the extractor within them, I'd like to create a feature around the hob with a plaster box and mantle. My aim is to break up what would otherwise be a long run of cabinetry and give the kitchen a more architectural feel.

The challenge is that the ceiling begins to slope into a vaulted section partway along this wall. I'm struggling to picture how a plaster-boxed extractor with a mantle would work in this location, and I haven't been able to create an accurate mock-up to show my builder.

I also don't want a traditional mantle design where the sides extend all the way down to the worktop, as I think that would make the worktop areas on either side feel like small alcoves rather than part of one continuous run.

Has anyone done something similar, or does anyone have examples of plaster-boxed extractors with mantles on walls with vaulted ceilings? I'd love to see photos or hear your thoughts before I commit to a design.

This was the kind of mantle I was picturing (with out the extra panelling - just a plaster box with the mantle the same colour as the cabinets) - but i can't picture it with this ceiling
