How to change from grey walls to taupe…

Both paints are the same colour swatches. One done straight on the grey wall and one done on paper. How do I prep the walls to make it come out it’s true colour like on the left? Thanks

I think it’s darker on the wall swatch because you have a darker background. In contrast the other sample which appears lighter I presume you’ve painted on a white A4 sheet of paper.

I would paint another coat on top of the one you did direct on the wall, let it dry completely and then look at the colours.

With paint and stains they differ according to what you’re putting them on.

I would still do an island. You have the space. I hate having my stove against the wall. You get boxed in and forget about two people working at once. How about stove in island, fridge all the way down to the right? You don't want the fridge to interrupt work space. You will end up w two too-small spaces instead of one nice functional one. We had an island with a downdraft Jenn-air stove-worked quite well for most needs.

I'm a huge fan of Farrow & Ball and their greys are lovely but if they're not working for you then why not try a different brand? The Paint Library Architectural range is very useful and they have a good range of greys in varying shades from I to V (I being the lightest) so you can use a III on the walls and I on the woodwork for a perfect tonal look. They're also grouped by undertone so they're really easy to use! Try Salt or Cotton perhaps? Zoffany also have some beautiful greys and have a similar shading system with some of their colours (quarter, half and double). In particular, I really love the Silver, Harbour Grey and Linen ranges.

To be honest I would be very careful with grey or anything with grey tones. We moved house last July and painted our lounge in FB elephants breath. In the north facing room it was very grey and sucked the life out of the room. We had to change it - very depressing. We have now used a paint from Little Greene - the paint quality is so much better than FB. Our decorator agrees. They might have a nice grey - but please be very sure of how it will look in your room!

You could do gray if you change the walls to a white Bm simply white for walls Bm decorators white for ceilings and trim gray inspiration in pic below, if you have an island do it a deeper tone of gray than all other cabinets to ground the island to the room

I painted a wall from a deep rose shade to brick red. Before the brick red I painted the wall with one coat of cheap brilliant white emulsion. It looked rough initially but it worked.

I agree with Daisy. Apply another coat and you shouldn't need to prime the walls. If you're still not happy with the colour you could paint the walls pure brilliant white first as a base coat, which is often recommended when painting over a dark colour.
