I think you’ve got a beautiful base to work with, dark green cabinetry and oak flooring is a really timeless combination.

The key here is balance. You already have quite a lot of visual weight from the dark cabinets and island, plus the warmth of the oak floor, so I’d avoid going too dark with both the worktops and the floor tiles.

For that reason, I’d lean toward the lighter limestone (Jerusalem) rather than the Dijon.

It will:

• brighten the space (especially important even with skylights)
• complement the warmth of the oak rather than compete with it
• create a nice contrast with the darker cabinetry

On worktops, I wouldn’t go fully dark everywhere. Either:

• choose a lighter worktop (warm white / subtle marble look), or
• keep the island darker and go lighter on the perimeter for contrast

If you go dark worktops and darker floor tiles, the whole space risks feeling a bit heavy and flat. A lighter floor and/or worktop will lift everything and make the green really stand out.

I wanted to share a quick note ahead of placing the order.

It would be worth considering the overall balance between light and dark tones, as well as warm and cool finishes, to ensure a cohesive result.

At the moment, the warmer tones in the flooring (including the wood elements) appear to contrast quite strongly with the darker, cooler tones of the kitchen, which may create a slightly disjointed feel in the space.

Could you let us know what material the units are made from? Depending on the finish, it may be possible to refinish or adjust them to better align with the overall scheme.

Alternatively, shifting the worktop to a lighter, warmer tone and reducing or removing the black elements could help create a more harmonious and balanced aesthetic.

Thanks Alicia, the carcasses and drawer boxes are made from EGGER 18 mm MFC, colour of your choice, finished with solid birch plywood edging in Egger Fir Green (often referenced as U699 ST9 or ST76). I am thinking of a lighter worktop now as you said it may induce a warmer tone. It's a very light and airy room so the dark cabinets will be surrounded by light. I am considering matching the Fir Green colour paint for one feature wall behind the sink and then contrasting with another colour for the rest of the room. What would you say is a good contrast for a room that is already light and bright?

I’d personally keep the darker worktop and go with the Dijon limestone. The warm beige tones and natural variation should work nicely with the dark green units and oak floor without making the room feel too heavy. I’d definitely get samples and look at them together in the actual kitchen light before deciding. Also worth remembering that Dijon is natural limestone, so it needs sealing and ongoing care, particularly in a busy kitchen.
