Is the three pendant requirement because of already having the light fittings? I’d be tempted to get an electrician to remove two. I’m having my first breakfast bar soon, dividing an open plan living area from the kitchen in my new house and I assumed I would have three pendants too, but looking at photos online I’m starting to think light bar style lamps are way cooler . But you can get the modern sleek look with pendants too.

The good news is that your kitchen already has a strong palette. What you're looking for in a pendant is warmth and a little material interest - not something that fights for attention.

For three pendants above a large island, proportion matters as much as style. As a general guide, each pendant should sit around 75–90cm above the worktop surface, and the combined spread of all three should cover roughly two thirds of the island's length, leaving breathing room at each end.

For this scheme, I'd look in three directions:

1. Aged brass or unlacquered brass - a warm metal that bridges the beige stone and the black cabinetry without competing with either. A simple dome or cone form in this finish reads as considered rather than decorative.
2. Smoked or amber glass - a pendant with a tinted glass shade adds warmth to the light itself, which flatters the stone and softens the contrast of the black island beneath. Works particularly well if your kitchen receives cooler natural light.
