high cupboards or shelf?
All comments about the space welcome. See pic where there are 2 ovens side by side these are going to be in one stack and make the work top at the sink longer . My question is do I have a shelf or keep the cupboards in the pic and extend them. The cupboards will be useful but e is also important to me it’s my first kitchen renovation and hopefully last ! Any other comments about the space are welcome .

Comments (27)I think you're making great progress. CDR wanted you to put them all vertical because she thinks only professionals should style bookcases. We are/were all amateurs at one point, that doesn't mean we shouldn't decorate our own homes. You're getting there! Just keep studying the photos of bookshelves that you like and keep practicing. Just remember to keep the decorations simple. Comments (37)It looks very good James. Even though as you say it was a clients design build, it works fine. Once the Island has stools it will fill it out better. Has that naked look at the moment. The position of the wine rack might cause issues but overall it looks like a really clean and fresh kitchen. Plenty of natural light and the colours compliment each other. The extractor is a nice feature too. Everyone has different opinions as I see on here but if the client is happy with it then job done. Comments (12)Don't be swerved away from hand painted tiles! The best way to add colour and originality (I make hand painted tiles so I may be biased). I would take the tiles to just under the bottom shelf, and up to the hod. We have had tiles behind our cooker for 21 years, and we don't find the grout staying clean a problem. Comments (1)You could do a black paint trim over the wooden bits. It would go with the work tops. But not so much with the creamy doors; Or get all of the kitchen units spray painted white? I think if you try to match the floor with the wood of the units in the kitchen you may leave yourself open to a mismatch or even just an overload of wood. I didn't feel there was enough black there as the island top kind of took me by surprise on first seeing it. But could you remove that granite altogether and see how it looks then? 5 months agoI prefer the sink on the island to create a focal point with a decorative hood/mantle etc for a shaker kitchen.
However if you want the sink there you could consider a mix of cupboards with shelves to add decorative accessories. Alternatively fluted glass cabinets may work if you’re concerned about dust

Our upper cabinets are longer so come down lower, which I think looks less bedroom-y, so maybe double-check the dimensions and how much head-space you really need above sink.
