It’s a lovely room. Do you need a change of paint colour? I assume you like neutrals so maybe just add cushions etc to tie in with your floor colour? Perhaps a patterned one and a textured one

For me for it to feel cosier I would add roman blinds and table/floor lamps although is that a high chair that can be seen re a floor lamp?

I love the blue art but it is quite a cold colour, not sure if it would work in another room?

i might also try pulling your rug away from the hearth by just a few inches

Hi both, thank you so much for your advice. I immediately took your advice and moved the rug back a bit and it already looks better. it is a high chair but the kids are quite good with floor lamps and there are some gold white ones actually out of view so could add some more. I guess I dont want it to seem too busy, but maybe just some warm cushions could be a good start. Is there any colour you suggest? I actually love rust but have to see if i can convince my other half who prefers neutrals,..

We do have quite a few blue accents ws well on the side behind the sofa so dont want it to clash too much

I would stick with the one floor lamp then. Do you have anywhere for a table lamp though? I think rust would work for cushions as it ties in with your chairs or ochre. West Elm have some that you might like

It is a lovely room and although north facing it looks really light and bright. If you were to have full length curtains you could have a wrap around track so they pull back away from the windows completely, when open. I think a sideboard or console table would look good in the space where the balloons currently are. Alternatively I would move the drinks cabinet (?) closer to the fireplace and group two or three of your large plants next to it in the corner by the window. I’d place a large footstool in front of the sofa and move the round tables to the side of the sofa. The tables themselves, being marble and metal are quite ‘cold’ so would you consider replacing them for a round wooden side table? The black bull isn’t giving me cosy vibes, maybe he can be re-homed? The tv looks really high but perhaps that’s your preference. Here are a few colour suggestions.

Thank you those are some great ideas! i think i will lofe the drinks cabinet closer and rehome the leather rhino. And i think rust is the colour, i really love the last photo. Maybe i need to add some more natural materials like terracotta or wood…

I just had a look at your space and I think it just need a bit more stuff in it.

For me what really lets this room down is the emptiness of the walls either side of the tv.

I've created this quick mock-up to show you what I mean.

1 - Get a chest of drawers or a console table to go under the paiting on the right. This will ground the paiting and fill up the wall. Adding a table lamp on it will give you opportunity for intriducing more colour and cosy light in the evenings.

2 - You've got the drinks cabinet but you dont have the armchair next to it to savour the drinks (!) This needs to be corrected. Again - opportunity for adding colour and texture into your space. This armchair should be accompanied by it's own light - for reading or just giving you another option for mood lighting in the evenings.

I have also added a new art behind it - it should be something organic in shape; maybe a set of mirrors or some metal artwork. Steer clear from another square/rectangle there.

I would ideally get a differnt rug. something that has more colour in it. And then use the colours of the rug to inform other colour accents in the room.

Going to a shop and getting a bunch of stuff in one colour rarely adds any dimmension or more style to a room - you need to think more hollistically about it. (I know - pretentious word!)
