Meranti windows with pock marks

Joiners say these brand new meranti (hardwood) windows are painted properly...I disagree... Why are there pockmarks (zoom in)? What's the solution?

Are they wooden? If so I don’t think that’s a good paint job.

    yes they are timber

were they painted on or offsite?I wouldn't be happy, the holes had just been left without discussion. Looks as if it might be the ambrosia beetle. Wood filler, sand and repaint?

That is where there is air in the timber under the paint. You should be able to fill and repaint.
    Were they spray painted?

Hi @daisy england - yes they were sprayed off site. Water based primer which I dont think has made it into all of the grain clearly so disappointing and very awkward... not to mention expensive...

Water based primer is correct to use. Merranti is very porous. It’s a downfall of that timber. It’s not very dense. Most redwoods are porous and this is where you get the problems. It’s definitely air under the timber and unfortunately it’s one of those problems you get with pre finished windows.
Who recommended that specific timber? It’s a timber we no longer use and haven’t done so for many years because of the porosity and softness of that particular timber. We would recommend using Sapele or Accoya for external use for painting. However the difference in price to use Accoya would be substantial although if the manufacturer had used Sapele there would not have been a lot of difference and the outcome might have proved more beneficial.

Haven't heard of Sapele but chose meranti as better than force grown redwood .... Still need to work out a solution as they have fitted a huge amount of them.... What a pain

The only way around it is fine filler and repaint.
