Bedroom/office will be mid century modern - we’re stuck for ideas

Painted this room grey owl and then green but purchase some tiles for the hearth and now know the tones don’t go together. Any ideas for colour on walls was thinking either welvet (white) on walls or fireplace or the opposite way around Seneca (green) walls and welvet fireplace but any suggestions on Color welcome. The tiles will stay.

I think you should just repaint the fireplace white and then you won’t mind the minor difference between the wall and tiles because the two colours won’t be touching

Ok thanks will try that and let you know but still not sure about the green on walls either maybe dark green?

    Black fireplace?

Hi there some better photos in daylight sorry they’re duplicates - one more question should both bedrooms compliment each other in terms of colour or doesn’t it matter?

I think what you have done so far is very nice. It’s normal for people to have a wobble at this point but I would encourage you to furnish the room, hang curtains and pictures and make it feel finished because it’s so difficult to envisage the end result when you are only half way there.

Yes we did think that - defo having a wobble!

Hi guys, thanks for all your previous comments but can I enlist your help again with lighting and accent colour please.

    A slightly better image

Your room looks lovely, calm and serene. I don’t think you need to add an accent colour, instead try to bring more ‘wood’ into the room. No idea of your budget but a Tom Raffield Skipper pendant light in ash or oak would look amazing. Any light wood shade would complement your headboard and add warmth. Check out Next and Dunelm’s wooden pendant shades too for budget friendly options.

Thank you I love the Tom Raffield Skipper and ordered the small one but was too small and the larger would be too big. I will look at Next and Dunelm. Thanks for the comment about accent colour too.

Are you aware that the Skipper pendant light actually comes in three different sizes? Another maker you might like to check out is Stuart Lamble, I think you’ll love his work.

I always think coral and grey goes well with a soft green. Be careful to avoid blue/greys and instead choose brown/greys and green greys

Hi Betty I didn’t know that! I will look Into it and the other designer too. Jonathan, thank you I wouldn’t have thought about grey rugs but I can see that it would work and will look at warmer greys.

As you were all so kind I thought I’d show you the almost finished room a lot of items we already owned and swapped the overpowering bed to one we already had. Needs some colour maybe a different throw?

Will change the light shade in due course have had it around 8-10 years in the hallway

Love the rug, looks so cosy, is it wool? An armchair would be perfect by your floor lamp in the corner. Here’s an idea for the ceiling light from Next. What have you chosen for the windows?

    Here’s the shade.

Thank you - nothing yet at the windows! I will go for plain blinds - what a surprise! That pendant looks lovely I will take a look.

Yes the rug is 100% wool from the white co a few years ago.

I like the room very much but for some reason want to move the rug a bit nearer the left hand wall!

I meant the right hand wall!

Hi there Picasso, there’s a rough floorboard on the left and we decided to cover it with the rug so not long enough to move unfortunately.

It looks really nice. A couple of thoughts, sometimes repeating materials or colours can help to tie a space together, and sometimes (in fact often) the 'values' of a space can be out of kilter. This means you need some more darks or lights to anchor the space.

The dark green of the plant looks fantastic, I would echo it in some dark green linen pillowcases. I would definitely have a large raffia pendant light as it would duplicate the colour and material of the floor and look good against the green wall. Finally, sorry, I would swap out the floor lamp for a wooden one with a large shade to fill the space. It's a nice lamp but I'm not sure it's right for that alcove.

Hi Juliet, I agree with your comments - the light fitting is temporary what I would really love is Birdie Fortesque rattan pendant but it’s pricey! I have a wooden lamp I could swap and see I will do that tomorrow - thank you.

Very clever solution for a rough floorboard!

Hi Juliet, does this lamp suit?

    Sorry wrong pic

Lovely room, I’m glad you stuck with the green. A sand coloured throw would be a great addition, similar to the floor lamp shade.

Thanks Sonia I will look out for one.

That lampshade fits your design perfectly and I agree with Sonia, a throw would tie it all together. Had a quick look online and found these. I really like the multi coloured one, what do you think?

That lamp is perfect, a dose of warmth and it fills the space. I agree with duplicating the sand colour and maybe the chestnut colour in the wood. A couple of Binga Baskets would pick out both colours, I have them in my kitchen below.

WOW beautiful! I will definitely consider the baskets they weren’t on my radar - they are now!

Betty, I agree the bed needs a throw in that colourway - I like 1 and 4!

    Another lovely one……

    Just lovely

A round mirror above fireplace would look lovely if you could find somewhere else in the room for the picture.

Oh goodness, at the risk of causing you to have a coronary, I hadn't noticed that the bed was previously dark wood, I think it looks so much better than the grey one. Walnut and green is a mid century match made in heaven.

I agree we painted the green to compliment the bed however it dominated the room so I gave it to my son who recently moved and bought the old beg back into the space which isn’t very big. I’ve also an office in there too.

Btw I do have a round mirror that used to occupy that space! I will give it another go.

Ah I'm sure if you think it dominated then it did, the wood colour looked nice though. That desk is very nifty.

Hi there - any better with the mirror and blanket box - all comments very welcome :-)

It just gets better! Very elegant, the mirror looks great there. Perhaps think about what you can put on the mantelpiece for more of an impact? A trailing plant or a tall candle holder maybe?

I love the round mirror and I think putting the blanket box there is inspired. I no longer want to move the rug!

    Looks fabulous! Well done.

Thanks, just need a new throw and pendant.
