How to lay out bedroom with chimney breast

Hi there! looking for some advice here, hope someone can help.

Our bedroom is a decent size if an odd enough shape, but there is a chimney breast in it that is messing up any layouts we try. This is a pretty close approximation of the room shape. You can see the chimney breast on the left:

Our bed is 160 x 200cm (European Queen) and we had placed it on the right with a space of about 40cm on each side, as you can see above, but it's a bit of a squeeze walking around the bed to the window side. We plan to put wardrobes in the area at the top, it's almost perfectly suited for that, except the chimney breast would block any doors from fully opening on the far left.

So we tried placing the bed on the left hand side. The alcove on the left of the chimney breast is too small to allow for the bed and space around it, but we tried placing it out from the wall against the chimney breast, and it sort of makes sense (see below). We have plenty of space around the bed and the room feels a bit better laid out. Also, it allows for the "command position" of the bed facing the door, as opposed to the door behind the bed when it's on the other wall (which I don't personally mind at all tbh).

So I've been thinking of extending the chimney breast along the wall (or rather bringing out the wall to meet the chimney breast). It's about 34-35cm deep. Are we mad to do this? It would reduce the size of the room a little bit (by my calc around about 1 sqm, so not much). Are there any other layout changes we should consider first? I've seen some ideas where shelves/storage is built into the false wall etc which look quite nifty. Something like the below images:
