Paint colours for boring upstairs passage...

Hi all, doing a reno and thinking about paint colours. We have a very long, boring corridor (have attached photos from either end)... I'd like to do something fun with the doors and skirting (can't change structure or ceiling or door frame shapes so please don't send suggestions for this) - was thinking either 80's Miami/ luminous colours OR neutral earth tones (more red and amber than sage greens) - windows are south facing. And how to deal with the curve in the ceiling? Any ideas for something fun where there's lots of doors (there are 11 in total off this hallway but 6 if you only include the ones on the north wall opposite the windows). Floor is now down so please ignore those pipes! Please use your imagination - nothing is too wild. Thanks in advance!

Is it going to have a polished wood floor? If so, i rather like the meandering nature of the floor so I would paint the walls a pale neutral then the woodwork as slightly deeper stoen colour then splurge on some sknny hand knotted gabbeh runners from etsy. As there are so many doors and frames, anything strong on the walls might make it look quite 'jumpy'.

Hi Juliet - it'll be fitted carpet as we are in Scotland and it can get extremely chilly - thank you for your advice on jumpy colours though - that makes total sense.

Has anyone used midjourney to get a mock-up of a space like this?

In that case, maybe consider something as you say a little more out there. I don't like strong colours with wood floors but I do love a dirty terracotta with a neutral carpet. I've just used Arizona Sky by Graham and Brown paint and it's a lovely burnt orange that looks good with carpet.

Cambella....just as a heads up. The hallway looks fantastic with the "Kick" in there. It gives it some great character that would be enhanced using new wood flooring, properly sourced not using old bits. Eg new floorboards, not just a simple replace. Oil...do not varnish. The only reason being, your suggestion of warmth is taken on board, you do already have heating pipes under floor. The south facing windows can create more heat in the summer. Two extremes, one in winter, one in summer. The wooden floor boards will keep it extremely cool in the summer and comfortably warm in the winter. You can oil without sanding. Different colours available. Simply wiping down the wood and applying using a brush. I do hope all goes well.

I do love wooden floors however we have to think about noise both upstairs and downstairs and the fact that the rooms of this hallway will be carpet. I know wooden floors look better but in our case it's just not practical to have them sadly - it's not very insulated being an old house and temps can get down -20. Any advice on colour for walls would be most welcome, thank you in advance

I would go with your heart re colour - your options seem very different - Miami or natural - which will tie in with the rest of the house better? I would consider colour drenching the hallway so whatever colour on the walls is taken up and over ceiling. This will blur the odd angles that you have. The doors could be same shade as walls but in an eggshell finish, or a couple of shades darker. I did think a wall paper would be fabulous and fun but might be tricky with the weird angled surfaces.

I'd suggest painting all the walls a neutral colour, a different shade of the same on the trim and skirting, then have every door a different colour. Pinterest can create a pallette of colours for many aesthetics. If you really want a pop, paint the ceiling a sunny yellow in a sheen, to reflect the maximum light.

Thanks @Tab Darcy - that's what I was thinking so glad someone else thinks the same! ... Now time to work out a suitable pallette somehow...is pintrest better than midjourney? Or what are people's favourite tools for this?

Lots of inspiration on Pinterest (never heard of midjourney)

Paint the walls in a neutral, and the ceiling in an inspiring colour, taking this down to picture rail level height would have the effect of making the space wider too. Woodwork could be in a paler shade to tie it all together

I dunno I quite like a white ceiling (though I might have to do ceiling same as walls due to the curve) - but would be great to see examples of what you speak of

ooo that's an idea down to dado height... something to think about ...and I like the idea of a bit of panelling- perhaps something I can do myself.....though there's quite a bit to do...!
