Floor- that pale coloured board is not the same wood as the floor. I say leave the floor but invest in a good cleaning product to rejuvenate it.

kitchen. I wouldn't bother replacing two thirds of the kitchen. Do it all or leave well alone.

Wall colour. You say this is not as you imagined. What did you imagine?

personally I think yellow is difficult to live with and it feels exaggerated by electric light in the winter so had i inherited this i would have chosen a soft white for the living room and then a much stronger colour to frame the white kitchen. But in fairness the room is still a little bare with no pictures on the walls particularly in the kitchen and no curtains so you cant see what the final result will be. before you get the paintbrush out again I think you should get curtains, an oversized houseplant so the sofa isnt the only green thing. I think you should move the dining table away from the wall and put a round rug under it. I then think you should pull the green sofa away from the wall, decide whether the cream sofa is obstructing your view and if a couple of chairs would be better. And you will need more art.

The room did habe a ton of plants, books and pictures, they have just been removed to paint.

The samples we tried did look a lot whiter but have turned out far more creamy and yellow than expected.

Mine is a smaller space but I've been having similar ideas. I had a darker stained floor which I've just stripped back and it's made a huge difference. I've also been considering changing the kitchen cupboard doors/worktop which hasn't been as straightforward as I imagined. Most businesses I contacted for door replacements ended up quoting for a much bigger transformation than the cheap update I had in mind. I've since approached a handyman who can change the worktop and replace some cupboard doors once I can source the fronts only. I actually quite like Ur kitchen, but think the room would look better in a different shade. Shaded white could work really well with your kitchen and green sofa.

Thanks Laura, if it's helpful, we're looking at a place called kitchen door outlet (although haven't placed an order yet, only requested samples.) Prices are slightly more than IKEA. And also looking at worktop express who we used back in 2017 and they were reasonable and delivered quickly.

Yep we were after a softer white, but sadly it turned out much yellower in reality. :(

Did you have wall cupboards? If they’re not going back up then shelves and wall lights could look lovely. I’m wondering if the FF would look better at the end of the kitchen run and the butchers trolley where the FF is? You can get vinyl wrap for fridges (white if you want it to blend in rather than shown!)

some plants would be lovely, maybe preserved stems on top of the butchers trolley as it doesn't seem to get much light and a large/oversized one in the living area

The wall colour is very yellow, more a buttermilk so I think you could tone it down - more to a gentle neutral. F&B do Pointing which has the warmth but not too much yellow in it. A pale taupe like Skimming Stone would look nice. Another colour that would go well with the green sofa and your lovely rug is a soft pink, more a pale peachy pink. F&B have several as do Dulux. I think updating a kitchen is a brilliant idea, not everyone has the budget to completely change a kitchen, B&Q do lots of replacement doors and worktops so worth a look? It’s a very nice room and a green velvet couch is my favourite seating option!

You won't believe this but I actually had F&B Pointing as one of my options and now I wonder if I should just redo the walls?! I suspect that the main issue is that I don't like the colour.

What colour would you suggest for the kitchen doors and worktop? Assuming I repainted to Pointing, that is?

The photos you've sent do have paler floors so that makes me also feel it might be nice to sand back. I actually have a similar-sized coffee table to the first image, it's round, and made of light cane and has a glass top.

To my eye lots of pairings work well here together but not all at once. The walls looks lovely with the floor but not with the sofa and rug. A more muted pale stone colour such as Shaded White, or one of the Little Greene Portland Stone colours would probably work well to tone it down. I also think that a sisal rug might feel calmer and complement the whole scheme. I like the pink rug but for me it's not quite right with the sofa. I would then add terracotta as an accent colour.

Hi there, you mentioned Ikea kitchen doors, but be aware that they are not standard UK sizes and only work well with Ikea units.

I think if your gut doesn’t like the yellow it just has to go! What is your lighting set up like? I can’t see much apart from a pendant in the kitchen and a spotlight in seating area. Creating a warm ambience with lighting will improve everything massively. Large lamps on tables in the seating area and some new wall lights in kitchen will warm it all up a lot.

Do your pictures have strong colours? are they large?

I think i would have a peninsular island from the right alcove in the kitchen, keep the fridge at the end of the units.

Mirror in the alcove under the skylight reflecting light and artwork on the far wall where you have the exercise machine.

Wood shelving in the kitchen, with more artwork, greenery greenery.

The ceiling looks grey and clashes with the walls and as the walls are low maybe consider painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls?

I think the issue is the rug. If you replace the rug with something more neutral, or sisal as another person said, it will look more cohesive.

I like the colour in the lounge area. Change the flooring to something lighter. The colour doesn't work so well in kitchen though. Need something crisper. Perhaps a green like F&B Cooking Apple Green on walls as a complimentary colour.

Love the flooring now, and the octagonal table. I like yellow and I think it looks good with the flooring. A soft olive green or sage green for the kitchen units with a white worktop would look good I think.

Goodness me is that really the same floor? Looks stunning. Love the idea of soft green kitchen units but I would paint the walls a soft white. I don’t think the current colour will sit well with the green. It’s dingy. Try something like All White by F&B or one of the Dulux whites

I think you should consider painting the main room the same colour as the ceiling and skylight area as it will blend all those angles. You could aalso paint kitchen a deeper shade and embrace the fact that it is darker

HI, I have a similar lounge/diner space and in the same wall colour.

I see that you likewise have oodles of natural light and I have gone for (matching) white/sheer net dressing with a at the moment block colour curtain/s which is a slighty darker shade of the wall colour. However I'm looking into going Polar White on the curtains or a slight pattern... That pattern dependant on the 60-30-10 rule and how the accent choice/s pan out.

I add that I'm into Feng Shui and have the metal/white round elements in that direction...

My initial thoughts were, yes stain in the replacement floor board strip, maybe elect to change the rug to a shade of tan/neutral brown, still anchoring/zoning the room. I say this as I have the same loved colour sofa, although a love seat as to space, and am working towards getting cushions in colours of turmeric/gold, and maybe some botanical lines..which will match my walls (and brass curtain poles) ~all governed by the wall colour and maybe some geometric designs which incorporates the overall vibe that I feel by the property itself and the location. This in my case, 30's/ 50/60's 'jazz boho vibe...Although I have got some mid-century preloved armchairs, Parker Knoll style, but may actually be too dark in both wood colour and dralon green velvet but I'm veering away from mid-century and liking a Californian style.

Anyway, lol, maybe some open shelving in the kitchen..and maybe change up the colour of the overhead shade and/or maybe go neutral rattan ? adding a bit of texture.

Plants and artwork, lighting lamps, and I currently love a small touch/pop of 60's style Turquoise. That could be a ceramic but maybe you will opt for stoneware...maybe cement :)

Good decision with the floor. Walls could go whiter, previous posters have given advice on colours. keep the green sofa, paint the kitchen a slightly lighter shade of that green. keep the rug, paper the patio door wall and the wall to the left of the tv wall in a wonderful floral, completely over the top pattern that picks up the green an pink.
