Tiling in a cloakroom

last modified: 5 months ago

Hello,

I am renovating my home and building a cloakroom utilising under stairs space. The cloakroom has no window.

I have white toilet basin with chrome taps and beige floor tiles. There will be a large bathroom mirror above the sink. I am considering large white matt wall tiles along all the walls - I do not wish to include a pattern/motif as it may not age well, i will get bored of it.

The space is quite small so i wish to be a bit minimalistic in the approach, however am concerned it may look quite clinical.

Should i tile upto the ceiling on all sides or halfway up?

Welcome any suggestions so it doesnt look clinical.

Not sure if this will come through, these are the tiles i am considering:

Thank you Minnie101. Yes, I have already bought the sink.

I like the idea, however I will have a large oversized mirror (to ceiling) above the sink though.

So is it just a floating sink? Do you have a photo you could add and ones of the floor tiles would be good too?

personally, i find tiling all over a bit dated, an unnecessary expense and it can look very cold as you say.

Is the mirror already bought too?

    Hi,

Yes it’ll be a floating sink.

Have attached a picture of the floor tiles - they look warmer than the picture

I haven’t bought the mirror yet however it will be a plain rectangular mirror about 80cm wide and 90/100cm tall which has hidden storage behind it.

Re wall tiling - that is my concern whether it’ll look dated/cold to have these large format tiles (60x30cm) from floor to ceiling )

    Oops excuse the socks!

Here’s a picture of the sink

I’d be very tempted to not have wall tiles at all, but simply to choose a paint colour that you love.

Thank you, have thought about this., just being a bit indecisive about whether I should just commit to tiles or keep my options open and paint. Paint is more economical in the short term,

I agree with previous comments. There is no need to tile all the walls. The only area that needs tiling is around the basin, and since you're planning to have the wall mirrored, I see no need for walls tiles. It's easier to restyle a room with paint.

Thank you all for your feedback, much appreciated

I agree no tiles. We have just done our downstairs toilet and went for wood panelling for the bottom half. In your case I would choose paint over tiles. Tiles aren’t needed.

I love minnie101’s suggestion of Zelig tiles, so pretty. I wouldn’t tile all the walls, just the bit above the sink. Or you can go dramatic with, say, dark green tiles half way up and keep the floor and wall above the tiles light.
